11/11/2014 Lesley's Ka'ena Point Trek

Finally today 2 of the 3 Sealettes  from the Hawaiian Triangle Molokai, Oahu, Kauai got together.

This morning I picked up Diane Pike (aka Molokai Sealette), we stopped by Sandy Beach to see RN46 "Kea" and were lucky to meet Marilyn and DB for a quick chat.
We then headed to KPt, where Kimo Lyman joined us to hike to the point.

We first saw RW02 "Kauai PV" , that overnighted again on the Birth Beach side of Camp Erdman. We put a "Shhh I'm Sleeping signs. In the afternoon on our way out he was still there. We retrieved the sign  before leaving. Kimo L. will check on him in the morning.

RN58 "Luana" was on the rocks near the waterline on Birth Beach. As we watched her she moved into the water with the help of some waves. We didn't see her haul out again.

RR70 "Rip" and RO40 "Ka'ena" were hauled out on Back Beach. Rip has started his molt D1, his chest is cracking.
Ka'ena may be also (his chest was ruffled up).

We saw Albatrosses, seals and.... the 1st whales of the season !!!!
What a treat and lucky to have Diane spend the day with us.

In the late afternoon Ken Tingman called me and said he had seen RN58 "Luana" hauled out under her favorite tree on Hidden Beach.
RR70 "Rip", RO40 "Ka'ena" were joined by and RL42 out at Ka'ena Pt.  Aloha, Lesley
