11/9/2014 DB's Dailies: Kea&Buster@SB, Kolohe,Buster,Kainoa,Aukai&UM@RI, Pohaku@PC, Benny@WP, La'akea@TB

On my 0610 Sandy Beach check, Kea was gone, however posse member Barbara called at 0720 to advise that Kea (RN46) was back on the outfall. Marilyn & I put up the SPZ at 0724. He has remained all day.

On my first look at Rabbit Island at 0710 I found 3 animals in the Morning Glory, left of 1BS. Kolohe (RW22) was 60 ft left of 1BS, the same U/M from yesterday was at the log, 40 ft left of 1BS, and Buster (RV08) was 30 ft left of 1BS. When I got back to the pier at 0818 those 3 were still there, and Kainoa (RN04) was tucked into the Morning Glory fronting 1BS. The last cast member would arrive at 0857. Aukai (RL12) hauled out and she too headed into the MG for a snooze. There was lots of interaction today. Kolohe would relocate to hang out with Aukai for the day, and Buster & the U/M would have words over access to Kainoa’s side. The U/M departed at 1054.

When I departed the pier at 1300, Buster and the rest were all there. Posse member Gina called at 1530 to excitedly report that Kea was in the company of another animal at Sandy Beach. When Marilyn & I arrived at 1536 Buster & Kea were swimming & playing in the near shore waters, with the usual complement of “adhoring hordes” following them at the water line. Gina, Rikki & Marilyn managed to get them back while I put up a temporary perimeter. By 1546 they were back to the outfall, and Kea hauled out, while Buster rolled in the shallows for a while before departing, out and east at 1555.
Much Mahalos to Rikki Goble & Barbara Vonnegut for excellent shots. We checked the Blowhole end for Buster but found nobody. Just to ease my mind I returned to Makai Pier to see if the animal I’d been calling Buster all day, might still be there. Thankfully, he was gone. I also noted that Kainoa was no longer there. Aukai & Kolohe had the place all to themselves. Marilyn, Gina, Melanie & Gayle also were there in the trenches all day. Thanks gang !

Team Billand called at 0709 to advise that they had received word of Pohaku (RO28) at Paradise Cove. They were responding. Diane T., called at 1809 to advise that Pohaku had just departed.

Dana called at 1143 to advise that Karen Turner had found La’akea (RK82) at the Elbow, Kaihalulu Beach, Turtle Bay at 1030.

The Billands checked in again at 1433 to advise that Benny (RE74) was at White Plains, fronting #1708,

Thanks to BJ Heck and her grand daughter, who were going exploring at Paradise Cove...when out popped Miss Pohaku at 7am. BJ gave us a call and we were just around the corner on our usual route so we went to help her out. But by time we arrived, BJ and grand daughter put the signs out. WE just added the ropes as folks were already walking through the signs.

BJ had to leave so we took a watch to 10:30am.

Next after us was Jean Jasina and we were talking about the size of Pohaku...FAT. Maybe eating well or...who knows.

I am not sure who was next in line for a watch..but I thought SHELLY was next...and then Diane T.

So thanks to all...Pohaku got some z's. YEAH.

As for Benny, we were with him from 2:25pm to just after 6:15pm. No one came out for Benny..so we just sat there..watching all run passed the signs. You see Benny was all the way up near the greenery, as he always does. He is so green. Close to molting I'd say. Scratching alot, flies bothering him.

When a seal is so high up, we have to let folks pass in front of the seal, THAT REALLY BOTHERS ME and at times, Benny would check folks out. If they keep going, thats fine, its when they stop and take photos in the zone that SUCKS.

WEll, sun set, Benny even went higher up, and at times he seemed to want to go beyond the greenery. We left all the signs out, bid benny farewell..

My thoughts the entire time with Benny was...WHERE DID M AND M GO? Is she alive? Where is Kermit? Will he ever be back with us?

Where is Ewa Girl, IRMA, 2AW.

We know Lona, R018, and T21M are gone forever..but where are our seals?? I miss all of them so much...I have so many fond memories of all on shore, just relaxing in their small zones with hundreds of humans around them.

I hope Makaiwi is alive and well too. She was our girl who been through some really bad times..God bless all you guys...where ever you are. Flipper hugs guys...B
