4-18-2013 DB's Dailies:Sadie&Pup(D#36),Nani@RI, RIP,Kolohe,Kerby,R018@Maili Pt, Pohaku&Benny@PC, Kermit@NIM, M&M,Irma@WP, RI37@Chun's

On my first look at Rabbit Island at 0639 I found Sadie & Pup (D#36) in the Morning Glory, 30 ft left of 1BS. At 0641 I noticed what would prove (6 hrs later) to be Nani (RK60) just hauling out fronting IBS. She would move up and into the Morning Glory, and at 0657 she and Sadie had words, ending in Nani scooting over the driftwood tree and away from a pissed off Mom. She would not except that, and they did spend the remainder of the day in relatively close proximity on the Waimanalo end of the beach. There were no further interactions.

The Billands advise that they set a new personal best today with 9 critters in a single day.

At 0741 they reported RIP (RR70) at Maili Pt.

At 0826 they advised that Kolohe (RW22) had just joined RIP at Maili Pt. Kolohe would depart at some unknown time.

At 0931 they found Pohaku (RO28) and Benny (RE74) , 60 ft apart at Paradise Cove. Thanks to Laurie for the shots.

At 1210 Team Billand found M&M (R020) at #1708, White Plains.

At 1356 they found Kerby (RW08) at Maili Pt.

At 1423 they advised that R018 had joined the Maili Pt crew.

Lastly, at 1544 they reported Irma (R010) , newly arrived at the fence line at White Plains.
Ocean Safety called at 0941 with the report of an animal at Makaha, however the critter was gone when Debbie arrived.

Dera called at 1308 advising that there had been an animal all day at Chun's on the North Shore. First ever photos from Jeannie Martinson were much appreciated, but were inconclusive as to an ID. YEAAAA Jeannie!
Lesley was on the Circle Island Tour with her sister and stopped at Chun' just in time to get the RI37 ID as she was departing.

There was a total of NINE SEALS yesterday in our search. Kolohe, Rip, Kerby and R018 at Maili pt.

Then we found Pohaku who did have an injury to her right hind flippers. We noticed RED BLOOD, dripping to the rocks she was on. Dont know how she got the injury, but she seemed ok.

Benny was opposite of her at Paradise Cove. And I am sorry for Laurie F. for going through an event with a man with a VERY FOUL MOUTH at site. All the guy had to do was keep away from the Benny, STAY BEHIND THE SIGNS. Simple. But the man turned into an IDIOT, with his kid, in front of those other people out at the cove. Too Bad. Thanks Laurie, for being a TROOPER, a PROTECTOR out there in the front lines. Your work is truly APPRECITATED!!!! Shame on that Father with the kid. Tsk. Tsk.

Another call Makaha, but in transit, Debbie reported the seal was gone. TOO BAD.

Next find, Kermit on the reef Nimitz. He was still out there after 6:45pm. And a gentlemen pointed out that Alaskans LOVE TO EAT SEALS, and KERMIT HAD A LOT OF MEAT...BAH!!!!

On to our lovely M and M at Plains who decided to leave at 6:10pm.

Our ninth seal was found at the Fenceline, Miss Irma, all alone without her protection zone. I got the signs, roped her off, did my little education to those that came over. Rob was with M and M way to the right at Plains. We asked for some help...but ... no one came.

And later evening I was told, there was yet another seal at Kahe Point...holy smokes...too bad we missed that seal as well.

Seals, they need the protection, folks need the education!!!

A really nice lady with two kids at Paradise cove told me, for several days a fat seal came into the cove...no one to protect her, she was surrounded by idiots, taking close up photos. NO RESPECT for our critically ENDANGERED MONK SEAL...and how come NO ONE CALLED IT IN????

TO LINDA STANTON, we hope you get better kid...take care of your self. We need you out there, seals need you. But, got to take care of your self first...God bless you Linda. Miss You.

To Robert, Thanks for hanging in there with me, through the hot sun, the many seals found, to the idiots, dogs, THE HOMELESS, sharp rocks, aching body...LOVE YOU. You are my BEST FRIEND on EARTH. God bless you too.

Amen,

B
