6-10-11 DB Dailies

At 0639 I found M&M (R020)w/ Pup, on D#17, high on the beach behind Seal Rock Inlet on Rabbit Island. When I got back to Makai Pier at 0830 I found what would prove to be Duke (RA12) at 3BS, and no visible Mom&Pup. A quick scan of the water, brought the wonderful sight of M&M and Pup in the water together, on their first observed swim session. During the session they would move approximately 40 to 50 ft further to the left that I'd ever seen them, however when the hauled out it was to their usual location 40 ft left of Seal Rock Inlet. The rest of the day was feedin' and snoozin' .

At 1132 what would prove to be Kolohe (RW22) attempted to haul out close to Mom & Pup. M&M let him know immediately that she didn't think much of that idea. Kolohe beat flipper back to the water and hauled out to the far left end of the beach at 1143, where he remained the rest of the day.

Dera called at 0620 with the report of an U/U animal at Diamond Head. Colleen confirmed Irma (R010) at 0707. Colleen advised that Irma was gone on her 1230 recheck.

Team Billand checked in at 0735 to report Makaiwi (R4DF) fronting #1703 at Nimitz Cottages. Barbara reported that Makaiwi departed at 1203.

At 0743 the Billands found Max (R5EW) on the east side of the east end perimeter fence at White Plains. I'm not sure of all the other volunteers involved with Max duty today, but to one and all.... Ya' Done Good !!

Also at 0743 the Billands also advised that they got a call about an U/U at Keaau's, on the West Side. At 0930 the advised that the animal was Pohaku (RO28).

Mrs. Whisperer (Marilyn) did the KP trek today. She found Kerby (RW08), Ka'ena (RO40) and Noa (R6FI) at the end of the world (or as a kinda'/sorta' Aussie I know says.... "the back of beyond"... (tanx eh, Diga !) No matter what you call it, it's a lonnnnnnnng hump.

Dana called at 1432 to advise that a volunteer was with a hooked U/U animal at Kahuku Golf Course. She also advised that Schofield was responding. Unfortunately, the animal would depart at 1627 just as Schofield was arriving at the Golf Course parking lot. The hook was said to be on the left side of the mouth, so I'm hopeful that it was CeeCee (T401), but there was no good description, nor where they any photos, which could have greatly helped this situation. I cannot emphasize strongly enough, the importance of responding to calls with a digital camera. It's not just a luxury for the blog. Photos are an absolutely vital part of any response, for ID purposes. In this case its is of particular importance since it would allow us to know if we are now talking about one hooked seal, or two.
