6-30-11 Ewa Girl and Pup

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING shots from Team Billand... It had to feel really nice to be out there with the baby... but honestly guys you have out done yourself with some of these shots... Ewa Girl look so fantastic looking after the little munchkin... so based on previous estimation the little bugger is 20 days old?

Who goes there?
RIP I don't have time for this, I am taking care of the baby!
But.. I just want to see
RIP high tailing it out of there....

Most of the time with Ewa girl and pup was watching them snooze close to each other, always touching.
But they went for a swim, did some foraging at the rocky point area, then came a shore to have lunch. And just 8 minutes of suckling, here comes a third seal from the right...at a high rate of speed. Head up above the water, LOOKING at Ewa Girl and Pup. Well, Ewa Girl heard the new seal coming, swooshed her pup to the side of her. It was as if EG, put her flipper on pup, to say, "YOU STAY HERE HONEY, I GOT TO TAKE CARE OF THIS GUY". She immediately charged the new seal, got into a fight, with lots of splashing and thrashing about. Pup followed mom out immediately, vocalizing, JUST ADORABLE TO SEE. Then, the pup disappeared, Ewa Girl came in, like a bullet, searching for pup, vocalizing loudly. The pup, Popped above water. Mom immediately charged her baby, making sure it was ok. Mean while the new seal went out, but, he came right back to EG and Pup. Ewa girl made the pup turn around, quickly making pup land on shore. And the new seal came right up to the pup and Ewa girl. All three were huddled together, Mom on one side pup in middle and New seal along side pup. The Security said we had to LEAVE! AWE MAN, just when things got EXCITING...I wanted to fly a rock at the new seal, WHO TURNED OUT TO BE RR71...RIP!! Same thing as last year, Rip began to bother Ewa Girl as she was weaning SAM!! HE WAS SO PERSISTANT TODAY!! He needed a swift kick I swear. How dare he bother poor Nursing E.G. Rob and I didnt want to leave at all, we wanted to see what else was going to happen. It was totally hot out there, lots of Kiawe thorns, but oh what a show, oh what fantastic things we witnessed. Do we want to see again, you bet ya. I want to also say, Ewa girls pup...that little soul got balls, I mean big ones, it stood up to Rip, vocalizing at him and all. And Ewa Girl is one tuff tita..all woman and we heard her ROAR!!!!!!!

Great pictures, Barb! You and Rob do great work out there, and I am so thankful that you got the opportunity to see these seals. Thank you for the play-by-play of the interactions. I love to read the blog and your stories as I have my morning coffee. Great way to start the day for someone stuck in an office. I can live vicariously at least. :) See you on da beach!
