6-26-11 DB Dailies

Off and on rain made today a challenge for Rabbit Island observations, but nevertheless, observations there were. At 0655 I found M&M (R020)&Pup, on D#33, doing a feed at 3BS. It would be the first of 4 observed feeds. I also saw 2 swim sessions. All were in the 3BS area.

Also at 0655 I found what would prove to be Duke (RA12) snoozin' at the far left end of the beach on RI. He would remain there all day.

On a pan at 1253 I found Sadie (RB12) and RIP (RR70) newly hauled out , 40 ft left of 1BS. Sadie would move up , and into the Morning Glory for the day. RIP would depart at 1306, haul out again at 1351, and depart again at 1404. I did not see him again after that.

Sadie's D#6 molt is 95%. She has 56 small spots remaining.

Team Billand called at 1000 with the report of Rocky (RH58) at Iroquois Point. She would depart with the rising tide at 1049. The Billands said she headed east. We joked about her maybe stopping off to say HI! to Ewa Girl (ha,ha,ha) More on that in a moment.

At 1311 the Billand found T21M who had moved into Rocky's spot at Iroquois Point.

The Billands next reported Max (R5EW) at the Lighthouse, Campbell Industrial Park.

In the "yesterday's news" department, "Jack at the Bay" called to advise of a 2nd hand piece of information, about an animal doing a brief haul out at the far west end of HB yesterday around 1400. The stay was apparently momentary. I had not heard about that. While it could have been anybody, my dollar would have to be on Duke, who was probably moving from 2 days at Spitting Cave, and on his way home to RI, where I found him today. Bottom line ???????

Also in yesterday's news, Dera called at 1855 last night to advise that a KP visitor had reported a hooked seal at KP yesterday. Probably 761, but can't rule out CeeCee (or anybody else) until photos arrive.

Dera called at 1346 to advise that the Airport security woman who initially found Ewa Girl and pup, called to say that they were still there, and that she saw another animal at that location on her rounds. Ewa Girl apparently had no problem with the animal being there . She could provide no other info on the unknown animal. Yes..... it could be anybody but, was it Rocky on her way back to town..... hmmmm ?????? If shes back in town tomorrow, it's a possibility.  The suspense is killing me... this is better than the daily soaps, stay tuned tomorrow same seal channel, same seal time.

Those young ladies are Frank Van Steels granddaughters visiting from Alaska. We got to talking, they mentioned to us, their Grandpa is a volunteer also. We went, really, who? Frank. What Frank Van Steel??? Yes thats our Grandpa. Cool. So we took their photo to surprise Grandpa.

And we found Rocky first, then, she took off. Our dear friend Clay called us at 1:11pm to say, another seal pulled in, looks like it might be T21M. So we dropped by to check and sure enough, it was T21M, in rockys space. So we just kept joking with one another, bet Rocky went to visit Ewa Girl and Pup. Yeah. Who knows, maybe she did.
And then later in the afternoon we finally found......MAX!!! We had searched every place we could think of. Well, we had no luck. We thought, lets try Campbells..ok. Well, there he was, snoozing allllll by himself and looking so peaceful. Oh that muchkin, he sure has alot of hiding places. Phew, we done a lot of walking and driving to find this little seal, who is absolutely...GREEN!!! I cant tell you how happy we were...Max was just fine. RELIEF!!!!
