3/29/2017 In Addition: Lesley's Ka'ena Point Update

Diane and I did the Ka’ena Pt hike today from the Waianae side. The temperature was very pleasant.
Whales and albatrosses were shy and scarce, we walked around and saw many chicks venturing on their own.
At the point, we found the 2 brothers RR70 “Rip” (M b.2003) and RO40 “Ka’ena” (M b.2006) hauled out and sleeping peacefully.
Hiking back out we spotted RW22 “Kolohe” in a little bathtub being wet by the incoming tide.
Our next stop was on a Westside beach to see the boys RW08 “Kerby”, RW02 “PVKauai” and RK36 “KauaiKolohe” side by side.
From there a last stop to check on RN14 “Molokai”
All girls were MIA during our monitoring today

A 7 seals day wasn’t a bad day.

3/29/2017 DB's Dailies: Kaiwi@Kokke Flats, RW02,Kekoa,RK36,&Kerby@Nanakai, RN14@Maili,

Once again Rabbit Island was Monk Seal free today. Fortunately, Gayle checked in at 1123 to advise that Kaiwi (RK96) was at Irma’s Grotto, Kokee Flats. Posse member Linda would also confirm Kaiwi’s presence. When I arrived at 1252 I found Kaiwi snoozin’ at the grotto.

First contact with Team Billand came at 0621 when they arrived of a a foraging animal off shore of Nanakai.

At 0643 they reported the arrival of RW02 to Nanakai. He had been bellowing off shore lookin’ for the boyz and finally hauled out for a snooze.

At 0839 Kekoa arrive to join RW02 at Nanakai. He would later depart.

At 1309 RK36 arrived at Nanakai. Kerby (RW08) would arrive next at 1311.

The Billands reported RN14 at Maili at 1311.

3/28/2017 DB's Dailies: Kerby,RW02&RK36@Nanakai, Benny,Kekoa,Kolohe&RN14@Maili, Benny,RN14,Lei Ola@Maili,

My Monk Seal day was somewhat affected by waiting for the repairman at home (you all know the feeling). I had seen nothing at Rabbit Island on the morning shift and an afternoon recheck was still zero.

Gayle came through with the report of Kaiwi (RK96) half way to the grotto at Kokee Flats.

Team Billand checked in with a 0609 report of Kerby (RW08) cruising the near shore waters of Nanakai. He and RW02 would be the first arrivals to Nanakai at 0634.

At 0822 RK36 arrived and at 1143 RN14 & Kolohe would complete the Nanakai cast.

At 1023 the Billands reported Kekoa (RK72) & Benny (RE74) at Maili.

The highlight of the day came at 1048 when Team Billand reported Lei Ola (RH48) at Maili. She has been MIA since 1-22-17, according to my records, when she was seen at the 25 Min mark on the west side KP trail. The Billands have reported quick sightings of a small animal on the west side a couple of times of late, but no ID was ever possible. Lei Ola ??????  Love when this happens....
