Profile - M+M R020 untagged

M&M (R020) is an untagged, adult female, first seen on Rabbit Island as a subadult on 10-18-05. Since she has no tags, her markers are the only means of identification. She has numerous dark patches on her neck , near the mouth, and a dark patch angled from her sternum to the right fore flipper tip. She also has a small , healed scar above the left front nipple, ventral.

On my first look at Rabbit Island, at 0711, I found Sadie tucked in against the cliff, 30 ft left of 1BS , and at the right end of the beach found Mikala and Buster side by side up in the grass behind a spot I call Seal Rock Inlet.   When I got back to Makai Pier at 0816 I found that there was now a little gang of Sadie, Duke and Kolohe all together in the Morning Glory, 30 ft left of 1BS. The entire cast would move down to cool off around mid morning, and I never saw any interaction at all.

Team Billand reported Kermit, for the 3rd day, at Maili Point.

A check of Todd White's blog www.northshoremonks.blogspot.com will show you that KC was once again at Mokuleia today. This time just down the beach near Crozier Dr.

At 0650 I found RIP to the right of 3BS, and Sadie up in the grass at the right end of the beach. When I got back to Makai Pier at 0843 I found that Buster had now joined Sadie up in the grass. He would move down to cool off at 0921 , and Sadie would join him at 1215. Both remained there all day. RIP departed at 1207, and I did not see him again today.

Team Billand called around mid day to say that they hadn't found anybody in the west or southwest. Fortunately, ad 1352 brough news that they'd found Kermit at Maili Point.

Todd White's blog, www.northshoremonks.blogspot.com has shots of KC at Camp Mokuleia today. She is lookin' fat and happy.

Keith Kenyon did the KP trek today, and brought back shots of Ka'ena, Kerby and a first time Oahu visitor, RB16. She is a 2 1/2 yr. old female , born at Kalaupapa, Molokai, 7-19-07. She has been one of Val's girls for a while now.

Buster was just hauling out to 1BS on Rabbit Island when I arrived at Makai Pier for my first look of the morning, at 0653.                     When I got back to the pier at 0844 Buster had moved down near the water line at 1BS. At 1042 RIP hauled out to join him, however he stayed only a few minutes, reentering the water and hauling out again at 1120 at the left end of the beach, and then galumphed up and into the Morning Glory, 30 ft left of 1BS.

At 1154 I became aware of two swimming heads, playing in the rough shore break, and at 1230 they hauled out to join Buster. It would prove to be Kolohe and Sadie. At 1239 with Sadie in the lead, all three entered the water, and moments later RIP galumphed down and into the water to join the gang. I lost them immediately in the rough water conditions.

At 1242 Sadie hauled out to 1BS, and right behind her came Kolohe. Just a few seconds later came Buster to join the line behind Sadie, and then RIP. Regardless of age, all the boys had but one thing in mind, and that was to get prime position along side Sadie. When RIP came abreast of Buster, a quick "stink eye" froze Buster in his tracks, and he stopped the pursuit right there. Kolohe being young and dumb, just wouldn't take the hint. When RIP got to him and tried to intimidate him, Kolohe wasn't impressed and kept on going. Ultimately, RIP got prime position but Kolohe was right there with them, and no matter how threatening RIP tried to look, it didn't work. Kolohe remained close by. RIP did a lot of climbing on and nuisance nuzzling with Sadie, but at 1327 RIP tired of the game and galumphed down near the water line. You'd have thought that once RIP was out of the way, Kolohe would have moved right in, but nope.......... he immediately began following RIP ! They remained together for the rest of the day. Even when Sadie later moved down to cool off, 25 ft away from them , the boys showed no interest at all.

Team Billand reported Kermit amongst the beach dweller hordes at Maili Point at 0649, and later at 1010 found 2AW at Maili.

Sadie was the first find of the day. At 0710 I found her tucked into the base of the cliff, 30 ft left of 1BS on Rabbit Island. When I got back to Makai Pier at 0945, I found that Kolohe had joined her. Both were closer to the water line. As the rising tide began to get to them they began to interacted briefly, and they entered the water together at 1219. The water conditions were, as they have been the last several wind blown days, so I lost them quickly once they were in the water. Despite constant panning through the afternoon, I did not see them again today.

Team Billand called initially at 0845 with the report that they were watching a swimming animal off shore of White Plains. Barbara followed the animal the full length of White Plains, then the entire length of Kalaeloa Campgrounds, and finally at 1030, Irma hauled out to the reef at Wind Sock, Kalaeloa Beach. Robert drove the car ! Having done that treak a time or two myself , I know all to well, that I'd be down and out for a week after that trek. For Barbara.............. no biggy !!! Irma departed of her own volition at 1453, with the rising tide.

Sadie (RB12) is a soon to be 3 year old female, born at Rabbit Island 2007. Her 2 red tags, (B12/13) and a newly applied bleach mark on the left and right sides (N20). Other than that she is a pristine young girl with no blemishes or scars.

Profile - T15M Sharkbite (untagged)

T15M (Sharkbite) is an adult, untagged male, first seen as an adult at the time in 1987 on Laysan. He is one of the 1994 translocatees. His markers are a missing right foreflipper. (it was already missing in 1987), and a large Tiger Shark scar on his right side, posterior.

Profile - Yoda R302 (untagged)

Yoda (R302) is an adult male of unknown age, first seen on Oahu in 2007. He is an untagged animal so his markers are the means of identification. He has severely notched hind flippers, and bleach marks on the hind flipper. He has too many dings and scratches to count.

4/1/2010 DB Dailes

Duke was just hauling out , 50 ft left of 1BS when I arrived at Makai Pier at 0710. He began galumphing up to join what would prove to be RIP and Sadie who were up in the Morning Glory, 30 ft left of 1BS. When I got back to the pier at 0915 Sadie and Duke were still in the Morning Glory, but RIP had moved down near the water line. Sadie would move down next, and there was only brief interaction with RIP. Later, when Duke moved down, neither paid any attention . All would remain in a group all day, with no further observed interaction.
