7/26/2018 Monk Seal Dailies: (part 2) Lesley's Ka'ena Update

So the kids are back in town. Early this morning I saw RK40 "Napua" D83 foraging in some pools. Took 2 pics and got 2 great hind flipper shots.
Later in the day she was hauled out in a little cove sleeping peacefully.
I hadn't seen RK88 "Puna" D89 on the first check today but on the 2nd one he was out cold on the beach.

Just before 10Mnts Beach RG40 "Holokai" and RN58 "Luana" were sleeping in the same spot as the last couple of days. They were still there on our way back. Someone had put a stick barrier but as signs were up the sticks were taken down.

At the point RO40 "Ka'ena" was sleeping at the end of the Runway. Shots from the cliff showed his scars - easy to ID.

That's for the seal monitoring part of the day.

Team T & D joined me early and we went to attack our priority of the day: the big net - it took us an hour with good tools and lots of good humor. The Polaris & their truck had their trunks full.
We then headed to the NARS to look for the orange net I had seen floating yesterday. We found it, got it loose and Dave carried it up.
Dave estimates we hauled out +800lbs of net today !!

Thank you Team T & D it's always an adventure to work with you both.  More tomorrow ðŸŒº

Thank you ALL!
