7/18/18 Monk Seal Dailies (part 1) Rip RR70, and Ka'ale RH32

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Lesley.  Lesley's compete Ka'ena Update is part 2 of the dailies.

Team Billand went to the outfall and Ka'ale was already enjoying the all you can eat breakfast buffet. He did his usual swimming about for food and entertaining them as they watched. At one point one of the fishermen decided to use live bait to catch Kawakawa, but lucky enough Ka'ale was already out of the area.  So Team Billand left to check on nearby beaches.

They found Ka'ale just hauling out and showing off his very green belly. He has interesting tan/algae lines. He was getting blasted by the waves, rolled about, but made it up the rocks and settled in. Once again they left him.

Team Billand didn't have much luck finding any other critters so they went back to check on Ka'ale. He was still there resting when they spotted another seal cautiously approaching checking out Ka'ale on the rocks. It was RIP RR70 N1, he hauled up and they went at it. Ka'ale was too lazy (probably too full) to fight. He just lay in the water hole. Rip moved in layed on the kids head, on his belly and then moved up the left side to rest. So after a little bit of grumbles the two settled in peacefully.
Team Billand left the area as there were people coming around and they didn't want to draw attention to them.

On one of their stops Team Billand spotted a NOAA truck, apparently there were many snorklers and swimmers in the waters with dolphins. The dolphins kept changing direction but the people kept at them.  The official in the truck put his lights on to flash them to move away.  Team Billand left, but we can only hope these people were fined or at the very least given some education and awareness that they should not be approaching ANY marine mammals while in the water. Oh well little by little.
