7/12/18 Monk Seal Dailies:(part 2) Lesley's Ka'ena Update

I had a visitor from Australia with me today. We started our monitoring day at the PlayPen and for the first time in ~90 days it was seal-less !

We headed out to the point searching every nook and crevices following Team T&D and we all headed in together. Our first seal was RW02 "PVKauai" in Squinty's
Cove. It's the first time I see him there.

Further down we saw RO40 "Ka'ena" at the end of the Runway.
We hanged around at the point but no other seal showed up. The tide was extremely low and many reefs were popping out.
We went up the hill to look at the West side and saw Dolphin Tour boats coming in really close to the point. Bottle nose dolphins were swimming away but boats kept getting closer and closer. We photo & film documented them.

Sasha & I headed back. At the PlayPen both weaners were rolling and playing in shallow water. They both hauled out together mid beach.
RK88 "Puna" has a new gash on the left side of his neck. Nothing serious just a battle scar.

This evening just before sunset Kimo & I went down to check the beach. We found RW02 "PVKauai" between the Big Camp site and the Keiki Coves. That seal sure moved around today.

RK40 "Napua" was curled up mid beach among some big rocks.
RK88 "Puna" was MIA.   More tomorrow ðŸŒº
