07/29/2018 Monk Seal Dailies: (part 1)

Today's dailies are brought to you by Lesley, Team Billand and Marilyn. Lesley sent her complete update from yesterday and today, which I posted in part two of the dailies.

Team Billand arrived at the outfall early morning and spent three hours watching over the action.
When they arrived they found Ka'ale RH32 with this butt in the air, foraging and catching Akule. They saw another seal off the outfall foraging, he quickly came into the outfall, and they ID'd RN14 Kalani. Today there was no fighting, and no sooner did he come in, he was gone.

A few fishermen were going for the big catch, using bait that immediately attracted Ka'ale. As soon as the lines when in he begins to chase them. Well this little seal is becoming very use to catching his breakfast from the lines, he even gives them stink eye when they pull the line out of the water. Some time after 9:15 they lost site of Ka'ale so they left the area around 9:30.
On their afternoon check they found Ka'ale RH32 snoozing on the rocks safe and sound.

Around noontime they found Kalani RN14 resting on a Leeward Beach. He was alone and looking good, although the marks on his chest, may indicate the beginning of a molt. Maybe/maybe not?

Team Billand made the Ka'ena West trek and at the 20 mark they found RIP RR70. It was very hot out there today, and still there were lots of people out there today. Good news is while Team Billand was there the people were not aware of his presence.

On their way out they found two seals together at a nearby beach. They were able to ID RL42 Leia and da Benny RE74. They were side by side in peace. There were lots of people to the right, so Team Billand didn't stay very long. Both of them were resting peacefully looking healthy.

Marilyn was out at Makai Pier twice today. The first session, she was skunked, not a single critter. So Mrs. Whisperer returned this afternoon and spent an hour. She spotted a seal almost all the way to the right of the island ( Makapuu side). Marilyn was able to determine a juvenile with two tags, there was some green around the muzzle and eyes. She wasn't sure but believes the critter is a female.

Marilyn got word from a friend there was a seal at Crappy Cove. When she arrived she found RK24 sleeping on the waterfront rocks. A SRA had been established so she only stayed for a short time.
Later (early evening) Marilyn caught up with Gayle who had been tracking RK24 who was now on the move. He hauled out for a bit by Irma's and then headed back into the water about 7:30.
