Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from the Pier for about 3 hours. She spotted 5 seals on the island today. To the far left out on the rock flats, was RN46 Kea who was readily ID'd by his male belly and the natural bleach on his right front flipper. At 1242 Kea got in the water and a few minutes later showed up in the left point inlet near Sadie and PO6. He looked around for a few minutes and then left in a hurry. Marilyn didn't think Sadie was aware of him, although the waves obscured that area for much of the time. Then at 1251 Kea hauled out about 50 ft right of the 3BS and remained there.
Sadie RB12 and PO6 were near the inlet when Marilyn arrived and later moved up. PO6 was obscured by Sadie for much of the first 45 minutes. They were mostly snoozing. Straight down from the 1BS Marilyn spotted weaner RK38 Hali'a. She moved up twice but was mostly in snooze mode. Three guys in a boar were going up and down the coastline of Rabbit Island, but never landed while Marilyn was there.
Far to the right of the island on the waterfront rocks Marilyn found a partly hidden seal that she ID'd as RG32 by his N32 applied bleach.
Prior to going to the pier Marilyn was with Kaiwi and PO3 from 6 am until 8 am. They were already in the water when she arrived and swam about for an hour or so, and the hauled out on the rocks to nurse. The pup is packing on the pounds, Mom still looks in good condition. PO3 is about 5 weeks old today.
Melody headed out to the east side today and was hoping to catch a glimpse of Kaimana RJ58. The good news she was seen, the bad news she had gone back into the water before Melody got there.
So Melody decide to go further up and check in on Honey Girl R5AY and PO2. Today makes about 48 days for this Mom and Pup pair. Melody arrived about 3 and not long after they went into the water. PO2 loved the water and Mom on the other hand looks very worn out and not as enthusiastic, but she kept up with the kid and kept an eye on her. They stayed in the water with Mom only coming out once for a 5 minute break. Their water session lasted at least 2 hours, and PO2 was foraging was able to make some catches on her own. As Melody mentioned it's probably good since Cafe Honey Girl will be shutting down soon. ( check out the videos)
