11/15/2016 DB's Dailies: Kekoa&Kawena@Rabbit Island, R8HE@L#1a,KoOlina, Pohaku&Kerby@Guard Rails, Holokai&BG@Turtle Bay

At 0810 I found Kekoa (RK72) waiting for me at the vegetation line behind Seal Rock Inlet.

On a pan at 0940 I found Kawena just hauling out to the left end of the beach. They would comprise the SE quadrant finds for the day.

At 0700 Team Billand reported R8HE at L#1a, KoOlina.

At 0959 the Billands found Pohaku (RO28) at Maili Guard Rails.

She would be joined by Kerby (RW08), per the Billands, at 1439.

Dr. Tom sent photos of his find of BG (R303) at the Elbow, Turtle Bay, at 0908.

Carola was at Turtle Bay later in the day along with Jennifer B., and also saw BG at the Elbow. She also sent shots of Holokai (RG40) at the Keiki Pool.

Pohaku and Kerby were reported after seen way up high on the walking trail in dirt and weeds before sun came up. A man stumbled into Pohaku on accident. A bit later, another man was poking Pohaku with a stick, told a lady he thought the seal was dead (UGH!!!!!). When I arrived at 7:35, they were moved a few feet down the slope on the next open dirt area near the cement barrier near walking path. It was unreal. At 8:15, Pohaku made the move to go to tide pool, Kerby followed. He tried many times to cuddle with who and use her side and flipaper, bit she was not liking that, would bark and he would bark. He finally moved over and blew bubbles as she spied on him a few feet aswy. at 9:00, Kerby scooted over the reef and into the ocean. When I checked later after 3:00, Kerby was on the reef that is in line with the cross street, while Pohaku was in the closest tide pool by the ocean, across the reef and in an area Kerby further away from. Not sure what time they left.

Thank you Melina !! Always love hearing about the details.... In both situations the people were lucky Miss Pohaku didn't go after them.... That always worries me that someday a seal will defend themself and get blamed for hurting someone.

Was so happy to find those two, but really surprised they were so far up. Yes, I also worry about seals defending themselves in those situations. Kerby was very protective over his friend Pohaku.I wonder where Benny was. He usually loves to be near Pohaku. Please excuse typos in last message, small keyboard on my phone is to blame!!!
