12/8/2014 DB's Dailies: RM38@RI, Kea&Buster@SB, Makaiwi@ near Makai Pier, Kaikaina@TB, Pohaku@PC, Benny@Nimitz Cottages,

At 0700 I found a 65% molted RM38 at 2BS on Rabbit Island. He would be the only RI resident today.

At 0840 I found Buster (RV08) in the water at the Blowhole end of Sandy Beach. He was obviously looking for Kea in exactly the same place that Kea had been yesterday. In investigated that inlet once, moved outside, but then returned twice more.

On the 3rd trip at 0945 he hauled out and I cordoned him off. He remained the rest of the day. Gayle reported him gone at 1705.

Gayle called at 1042 with the report of Kea (RN46) on the Sandy Beach outfall. He had not been there on my numerous earlier checks. We cordoned him off. Gayle reported him gone at 1658. We picked up the equipment.

On my 3rd trip to Makai Pier at 1241 I chanced to spy an animal on the beach, mid way between Makai Pier and Kaupo Beach Park. When I got down to the beach at 1244 I confirmed the Makaiwi (R4DF) ID, and put up signs on the approaches. I picked up the signs at 1758. I had seen her depart moments earlier from the road.

That turned out to be a very expensive response. I had parked along side the road, and when I got back to my car discovered the back right window broken and the Spotting Scope, tripod, and my camera and binoculars were all long gone. I guess it was just my turn in the barrel. Fortunately, I had downloaded today's photos, before my evening trip. so sorry DB.... i hope insurance covers it....

At 1052 Diane Gabriel called from Turtle Bay with the report of a 100% molted Kaikaina at yesterday’s location at Kaihalulu Beach, Turtle Bay.

At 1158 Team Billand called to advise that they had gotten calls about an animal at Nimitz Cottages, which at 1209 they confirmed as Benny (RE74) fronting #1806, and another call about an animal at Paradise Cove, when they would confirm at Pohaku (RO28) at 1351.

In the Yesterday's News department Ken Tingman sent shots of RL42 & Ka'ena at Ka'ena Point, and RIP & Luana at Hidden Beach, on his trek to the end of the world yesterday.

It breaks our hearts to hear that your equipment has been stolen. It sickens us, that those assholes are out there, LURKING, Waiting for the right moment...TO STEAL all of your items USED DAILY in your study of the Hawaiian Monk Seals.

Who gives a crap!! Who will solve this theft? Will you get your cameras back, your binoculars that you used every day to id seals, to see injuries????

Who will return your Scope? That you used daily while sitting on your chair, keeping track of all your babies...THE BELOVED HAWAIIAN MONK SEALS?

What an awful thing to happen just as you were done for the day..retrieving the signs from Makaiwi. Sad.

In life, there are so many obstacles we have to experience..but for someone to wait for you to leave your car...break your window to get all of YOUR BELONGINGS..SUCKS. What ass holes.

I am so sorry DB..I am so sorry.

I wish we could find those miserable humans who stole from you. I wish, some how some one SAW THEM AT YOUR CAR last night.

We are so sorry...hang in there DB, be careful.

I know none of my words will do anything..but Rob and I care and wish you better days ahead.
