2-2-2012 DB's Dailies: Buster&Kaiwi@SC, Kermit&T15M@WP

Once again today, Rabbit Island was Monk Seal free. In fact the SE quadrant was a bust, until Gayle's call at 0748, reporting an animal at Spitting Cave. It took a bit of observation, but it turned out to be Buster (RV08). He had last been seen at Blowhole on 1-27-12. Welcome back Kaiwi... I am sure all your Aunties and DB have been worried about you, or at the very least missing you.

As we were watching Buster do 6 minute dives, who suddenly appeared by the lovely Kaiwi !!! She too had last been seen on 1-27-12. Once she arrived foraging was out the window and play began and continued for the next couple of hours. Posse member Kathy called to advise that Buster wandered off further into the bay at 1025, and Kaiwi's last sighting was at 1039. There was nobody there on my 1500 recheck. Multiple checks of Kaiwi Cove were also negative. Tomorrow ????

Team Billand checked in at 0812 to advise that Kermit (R012) was fronting #1707, and T15M (D#3 molt 5%) fronting #1708, White Plains.

There are two items in the Yesterday's New file. Kelly Evans advised that a posse member of hers reported having seen La'akea (RK82) near the Campbell Bird Refuge yesterday evening. The ID was made by the N31 bleach. There were no photos taken.

Dera had advised yesterday that posse member Eileen had reported Kekoa (RK72) with line coming from his mouth at the Reef Runway. Dera said Sean & Mark were responding to assess. Conversations with both Dera and Tracy today, brought word that there had , in fact, been a small hook with line at the right corner of his mouth. Drs. Bob and Greg responded and the hook was removed without incident.

Every day we place our ropes and signs out, people read the signs, and then...they proceed to enter the zone. Dont know what else to tell these people..

T15M is molting. We make the zone bigger so he can molt in PEACE and not be scared off. The guy went right up to T15M, seal started to WHOOP WHOOP. And I know, when he do that, the leap and bite is to follow. I motioned the guy to keep back, KEEP BACK!!! GO around. but he kept coming and somehow, FINALLY got the instructions to GO AROUND and he did. I came out of my stroke, the guy moved on and T15M was giving em the EYE.

THe small boy, just went right under the ropes...heading towards T15M, I asked the kid to come out. Daddy realized, the kid wasnt going to listen. I shut my mouth, heart pumping, boy turned and looked at us, like WHAT??? Daddy finally got the kid to listen!!! And off they all went. Me...I dont know how many more strokes I can take...Spooky stuff. T15M aint a seal who will tolerate too much, unlike Kermit and Irma...he keeps track of all the folks around him. He is a powerful dude, no wonder he been around a long time. Awesome creature a real honor to be with him and Kermit. Today will make 10 days in this area at Plains. We are trying our best to keep him SAFE and in PEACE.
