Volunteer Dana reports from Makaha

Aloha everyone,
Bob and I left Makaha Surfside about 4:15PM. I took all the signs and barriers down but he was still there. It was just too many kids and people around to leave him there unprotected.

The Makaha Surfside security had a VERY CLOSE barrier put up, and it was too close for me to go move it or take it down. I let them know that we appreciated all they had done, gave us a parking space, etc. for the entire day and let us in and out of the security fence. I did ask them to call again and left quite a few magnet cards with their security team. I also asked them to keep an eye on him and move the barrier back further next time. They were all real nice about it.

Had an incredible amount of people and good Outreach, even though I felt like crap. Kept the gangster children away that were throwing rocks and the local Momma's threatened to throttle them if they showed up again and failed to show some respect. So all in all a good day. Took lots of pics, but the Billands probably took the best ones with their zoom lens. That's what helped us to identify him. They will probably send them along soon, hopefully the sun did me some good and I'll be no worse for the wear.-- Mahalo,Dana

4DJ is a new name for me. Where does he normally hang out?

Glad to hear it was a good day with lots of outreach and hope Dana is feeling better today.

laura... here's what I found. All u have to to is scroll down on the right hand side of the blog there is a list of names, numbers and key words. when u click on what u are looking for then all the information on the blog pertaining to that animal pops up!

The following is from one of DB's earlier post;

4DJ was first observed in 1987 on Laysan. He was already an adult, so he is a minimum of 26 y.o. . He was one of the translocatees in 1994, and was taken to Molokai. His first Oahu sighting was 3-4- 2004, in Ewa Beach. I first encountered him at Sandy Beach on 3-28-04, and then on 11-18/19-2004 at the west end of Hanauma Bay.

He got his N8 bleach on 2-9-06. He was sighted back on Molokai , 7-5-06, and was see from March through June of 2007 at Diamond Head (in front of Colleen's house), Ewa Beach, Iroquois Point, Ka'ena Pt. , Maili , and Paradise Cove.

Thanks Donna! Wow, the dude gets around! Let's hope he gets around in other ways and will continue contributing regularly to the gene pool over the years. :)
