DB Post Tuesday 3/17/2009

Despite many long hours of observation, this was another of those rare days with no animals at RI. It was nevertheless an very interesting day. Posse member Martha called from Hanauma Bay at 1016 to report an animal on the left side rock flats. When I arrived I found Ewa Girl at her usual perch. She had last been seen on 3-12-09 at Campbell Industrial Park. Her last visit to Hanauma Bay was 49 days ago, on 1-26-09.

At 1525 I got a call from John Silberstein, an off duty DOCARE Officer, who reported that his wife, Renee was with a Monk Seal at Kaupo Beach Park, across the street from the back entrance to Sea Life Park. When I arrived at 1535 I found a first time visitor to Oahu. It was a Kalaupapa, Molokai male, RB02, a two year old animal often reported by Val Bloy on Molokai. He was out at the end of a finger of rocks and virtually invisible. There weren't many people around since it was late in the day, and heavy overcast. I remained there until darkness set it at 1800. He was still out there on the rocks.

The Sparks family is at their White Plains villa this week, and reported that Kermit had hauled out near their cottage at around 0800.
