Happy New Year Friends of KP2,
KP2 has been in the wild for 24 days. There have been no visuals on KP2 since this last update..... The seal has made some remarkable moves to the west and then to the east. This is very encouraging! NPS staff Eric Brown and Randal Watanuki will continue searches for him on Tuesdays and Fridays at the known seal beaches ..... until further notice as this still seems, at least for now, to be a "home base" for him. I have notified the volunteers that cover ......on a weekly basis, to ask them to be on the look out and to post any sightings and images of KP2 to PIRO and PIFSC with urgency. Lisa VanAtta and I will be traveling next week to provide updates and thanks to the patient community and to sit down with the NPS hierarchy to thank them for their ongoing support and discuss future opportunities for monk seal program partnerships. All for now.

Oh My GOSH!!!!!! Thank you for this update on our kid KP2. I am sick with worry on his well being. I think of him every single day and he is in my prayers always. You have made my day with this report. We watched him grow up day by day and we knew he was ready for his real life at sea. He hunted for crabs well. He would bull doze those rocks all the time. He hunted the schools of fish with a vengence in his pen. I so appreciate this data. Thanks from my heart guys! You are AWESOME!!! Yahoo!! From Shawn Farry, David Schofield, To the Marine Mammal Specialists, TO all our Precious Volunteers and now to you guys,Thanks from my heart for caring for this wonderful pup,who we all come to love and appreciate...KP2. Because of ALL OF US...KP2 is gonna be OK!!!!!
