Team Billand at Nimitz with Kermit on Friday
A gathering place for Hawaiian Monk Seal Supporters & Professionals to talk story. Report all Sightings to 808-220-7802 or email PIFSC.monksealsighting@noaa.gov
At 0653 I began a day of Sadie Watch duty. I found her at the far left end of Rabbit Island, at yesterday’s location. There still was no pup. Also there , but well away from her was an U/F juvenile animal that remained all day, but I was never able to confirm an ID.
Marilyn checked in at 0957 from the end of the world. She, Lesley & Ken had done the usual Ka’ena Point trek, apparently with MANY others. They initially found Ka’ena (RO40) . He would be joined at 1020 by RW02.
Marilyn, Ken and I did the Ka'ena Pt monitoring today.

At 0719 I found a very large Sadie (RB12) in the company of last year’s son Kainoa (RN04), and Mojo (RI17) all together just below the Morning Glory left of 1BS on Rabbit Island. Today was Sadie’s projected due date, however as of dark this evening there had been no action. I’ll be on it dark and early , of course. Mojo would enter the water at 1233 and I did not see him again. Kainoa hung around Sadie all day.
At 1120 on a pan, I found what would turn out to be Aukai (RL12) on the water front rocks at Rocky Right Beach. She would depart a 1616.
At 1315 I got word from the Billands that Karen Banes had found Kermit (R012) fronting #1705, Nimitz Cottages. The Billands would also check him out later in the day.If you would like to know more about PEIS for Hawaiian monk seal recovery actions... Please check out the following link:
