4-27-11 DB Dailies

Live....Local... Connected !!.. ROCKY (RH58) PUPPED !!! Yep.... Dera called at 0820 (and moments later, Tracy) with the word that Rocky and pup had been found at around 0700, ...... on Kauai. Rocky , always striving to make our lives as easy as possible, was even kind enough to give birth within the already established cordon for RK22 and her pup. Shes just that kinda' girl !! Let's hope Momma Rocky teaches RK22 some skills on mothering.... although seems RK22 is holding her own. But our Rockstar is a great momma.
At 0925 I found Buster (RV08), on the water front rocks, 70 ft left of SRI. He would be the one and only RI resident today.

While at Makai Pier on a routine pan of Kaupo Beach Park, at 0941, I found to my shock and awe, that there was an animal out amongst the rocks, 50 ft off shore of Kaupo Beach Park. I immediately relocated to KBP, and after wading out to the site, found Irma (R010). I remained
there with her until 1300, and then rechecked every hour or so. I put up nothing since it would only draw attention to her. She was so perfectly blended with the rocks that the few people that showed up in the area never had a clue she was out there.

Barbara Billand checked in at 0752 to report Max (R5EW) fronting the Lighthouse near Germaine's Luau Grounds. At 0753 she called again to advise that Robert had found Makaiwi (R4F) just down the beach at Palm Grove, Campbell Industrial Park.

Late Entry from Sunday @ Kaena Point

Late entry from David Kamiya who was out at Ka'ena Point on Sunday ( thank you everyone out that sent pics in from Sunday... too bad you all didn't know each other, you could have had a picnic!)  So David reports Kerby and Kaena... he saw tags W08 and O40/O41.  David also noted Kerby W08 hauled out about 11:40 and Ka'ena popped up about 5 minutes later. Thank you David!!

The biggy news of the day deserves top billing in today's report. Tracy called at 0908 with the news that Mimi had called from Kauai to confirm that Rocky (RH58) is in residence at Larsen's Beach on the north shore of Kauai, as of yesterday. Mimi reported that she was round and firm and fully packed. There was no pup visible at that sighting but it could be any second now. Stay tuned posse !

Now , back to our regularly scheduled programming. I was on the road dark and early on the first of many rounds of the "Irma Quest" . Despite lots of miles, I never found her. Only Irma knows ! At 0632 I found Duke snoozin' on the water front rocks, 60 ft left of Seal Rock Inlet on Rabbit Island.
Buster (RV08) hauled out briefly to Duke, but quickly entered the water, patroling down to the left end of the island, to be sure there were no chicks, before coming back to join Duke for the day.

Team Billand checked in at 0857 to report Kermit (R4DG) at Palm Grove, Campbell Industrial Park.
At 1034 they found Makaiwi (R4DF) fronting #1701 at Nimitz Cottages.

For those of you who see the dailies but don't necessarily check da' blog (tsk..tsk..tsk) you might wanna' check yesterday's news, and comments. New posse member Deanna Peyatt sent shots from the end of the world (Ka'ena Point) showing RI37, Ka'ena (RO40) and Kerby (RW08).
Speaking of Ka'ena &Kerby, here is a piece of YouTube footage of K&K at KP on 4-24-11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiizotAL984  Or see video below

Team Billand forwarded shots from Jan Dill, taken today on the Mokes. It looks like KC (RK28) stopped by for a visit amongst a whole lotta' greasy people.  Thank you soooo much JAN!

4-26-11 KC @ the Mokulua Island

So happy to see the pics of KC at the Mokes.... I am pretty sure she stops by there on a regular basis, problem is no one ever sends in the pictures to prove it.  Also nice to see these people being respectful... (close but everyone seems to be relaxed and respectful).... Okay no bright ideas about pupping out there!!  Thank you very much Jill... next time you're in Kailua come by and say hello... I am usually working at Bob's Pizzeria ( cheap plug) .... donna da blog lady

4-25-11 Our Blog Has Found A New Fan

Aloha Good People!!  One of the favorite things about the blog is when someone new finds us, gets excited and wants to contribute.  Deanna and her husband made the Ka'ena Point trek on Sunday and found these critters... ( we probably need the whisperer for a for sure ID)...  Anyway, seems Deanna is a dive teacher and often sees our critters in the water... (of course I asked for pics)...  she spoke with Dera and got some good information AND will be now teaching her scuba students about our endangered Hawaiian monk seals.  Thank you Deanna, and I look forward to hearing from you.... and seeing some underwater shots. ~donna~ da blog lady  Okay DB do your magic!

4-25-11 DB Dailies

At 0637, from the Makapuu Overview, I found Duke (RA12) on the water front rocks, 60 ft left of Seal Rock Inlet on Rabbit Island. When I got to Makai Pier at 0700 I found that he had been newly joined by Buster (RV08). Buster reentered the water at 0704, and Duke followed.

When I got back to Makai Pier at 0915 I found Duke just hauling out, 30 ft left of SRI, and Buster just hauling out 60 ft left of SRI. Buster
would galumph down to join Duke. Both remained there together the rest of the day.

Dera called at 1430 with the report of an animal just hauling out to the right side of Makapuu Beach. When I arrived at 1442 I found Irma (R010) and cordoned her off.

Team Billand checked in at 0855 to report 2AW at Electric Beach
The Billands responded to a Dera call about an animal at Germaine's Luau Grounds. At 1030 they advised that Max (R5EW) in nearly the exact spot as yesterday's haul out. Naturally, there just had to be one local guy that didn't wanna' follow the rules.
Dera called at 1115 to advise of an animal fronting the trailers at the Turtle Bay Hotel. Dera called at 1713 to say that Jeannie Martinson had ID'd KC.

A late email from Dera brought news that RK22, on Kauai (KP2's Mom) gave birth today, and so far is behaving like a normal Mom.  Word is she really doing her job, although there is still caution... this would be one of those cases where anything that might spook Mom could result in her taking off.... lets' just hope Mom doesn't decide to go check out the boys if they come by to visit.
