02/03/2021 Yesterday News' Lesley's Tuesday Ka'ena Update

Whales EVERYWHERE and very active, Laysan Albatross chicks by the dozens, 2 Black Footed Albatross (our banded guy and today banded girlfriend??)

R3CU came buy for a visit and may have overnighted.

RW02 PVKauai was still on his slab in the tide pool.

We had a big downpour in the middle of the day than some sunshine for the middle to late afternoon with perfect and fun surfing conditions. As I watched Kimo having a blast I kept alternating taking photos of him and the whales behind him.

A wonderful day out here

02/02/21 Tuesday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand.

Team Billand found RH76 Kala and RJ72 Kekoa together at a west side location. There were in full snooze mode at the right of water front rocks.

At the bay they found R3CX Nalu snoozing on the rocks alone. He has gained weight looking much bigger.

At another west side beach they found little N4 Kai snoozing alone on

the sand. He is looking pretty green these days. Team Billand noticed a 50 cent size wound on the right side of his face. He is petty cute little fella.

From afar they spotted a small little seal, they were having a hard time figuring out who this could be. They saw the small neck scar and they realized it was Kalua RL20. Then there was another seal adult size when she showed the cookie scar on right side, they knew it was RL42 Leia. There were people arriving on the beach seeing the seals and heading over to them. One guy ventured down a bit, looks like the group were tourist and he was showing them the area.

Once again Team Billand hit the jackpot spotting a pod of whales. There was spouting and logging exposing their pecs and a Mom & calf. If that wasn't enough they also experienced a gorgeous rainbow.

2/1/21 Monday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and our old buddy Gayle.

Gayle shared some news today that she got to spend some time with N3 (weaner/juvenile) and a new girl in town R413. Seems there is a lot unknown about R413, what Gayle found out was she was first reported/sighted on Kauai last year. Other than that there is not much else, and we'll update as more is known. R413 doesn't have any tags, a scar across her chest, a couple of cookie scars on her right side. Welcome to Oahu 413! She was hanging out with little N3, who looks so teeny next to her.

Team Billand got to the outfall and watched the bosom buddies at play and foraging together. They can

be rowdy but they are pretty sweet as buddies. The boys left the outfall and Kaale RH32 was first to land at tracks. Kalani RN14 landed farther away to the right of the bunker. A dog came up to the beach and Kalani would leave.

Next stop was at the bay where Team Billand was treated to multiple whale breaches. How exciting to see! They found RN44 sleeping on the rocks alone. They also found RL20 Kalua on front rocks snoozing too. All and all a great day at the bay.

Lastly at another west side location they found RK72 Kekoa on lower rocks. Lefty RG28 was also on site to the right on the rocks sleeping.
