7/2/2016 DB's Dailies: Kala&Cass@Rabbit Island,DB, Kaiwi&PO4@AD, Benny@Paradise Cove, RIP&RL42@Makua Cliffs, Team Billand,Ka'ena&Squinty@Ka'ena Point, Nihoa&PO3@Mokuleia, Marilyn Dunlap,

Though I was not at the Kaiwi&PO4 site myself, I heard from the duty personnel all day, and Marilyn did the 4-7. Apparently, D#17 was without incident so far as I know. Mahalos to Gina,Dana,Barbara,Gayle& of course, Marilyn.

The Rabbit Island cast consisted of Kala (RH76) out on the left end rock flats, and green girl, Cass (RG06) 40 ft left of Seal Rock Inlet.

A Team Billand text at 0617 advised that Linda had reported an animal at Lagoon#1, KoOlina, but it departed. At 0632 Nancy called them with the report of Benny (RE74) newly arrived to the rocks at Paradise Cove. He would depart at 0828, but apparently returned again, with Warren responding, but he would depart again, heading east.

At 1143 the Billands reported RIP (RR70) & RL42, together at Makua Cliffs.

Marilyn & Lesley did the End of the World trek today, and at 0953 reported Ka’ena (RO40) at Ka’ena’s Pool, with hook still visible, and at 1046 called again with the report of Squinty (R330) at BG’s Pool. They also stopped to say howdy to Nihoa & PO3 before heading to KP this morning.

The National Marine Mammal Emergency Hotline called at 1251 with a report of a seal at Kaena Point. The caller could not identify the seal but reported the seal appeared healthy and well. At 1409 Don checked in again with a report of Holokai (RG40) at Elbow Beach at Turtle Bay. He was ID'ed by his G40 tag.

A Word from the Blog Lady

Aloha Good People...

The hour is late and I had one of those days where I was juggling many things having to do with my business.... and others that had to do with my friends in the seal world.  It was a difficult day and maybe tomorrow I can find the right words to express my thoughts....

Having said that.... what I will say.... is I have never tolerated bullying on this site.... I have never tolerated people being mean to each other.... SO if you think hiding behind an anonymous post is going to get you somewhere it's not.

I have deleted the unnecessary remarks.... and I want to apologize to any of the individuals who were targeted.  We all do our best.... NO ONE... is perfect.... we all make mistakes.... AND WE ARE OUT there because we care about the seals.... not our egos... not about attacking other people trying to make a difference.

Have some self respect and stop this nonsense.... that BS is not going to happen here.  I hold this blog and the contributors very near and dear to me.! I will protect and defend them anyway I can.

7/1/2016 DB's Dailies: Kaiwi&PO4@AD, Kala,Kea,Kekoa&Cass@Rabbit Island, Aukai@Moku Nui, Rocky@Iroquois Point, Pohaku&PK3@Kauai, Ka'ena&Luana@Ka'ena Point,

Marilyn did the morning check at AD and advised that Kaiwi&P04(D#16) were snoozin’ in their tide pool . Subsequent texts from Team Billand advised that they had done a couple of swims and were snoozin’ when they departed. In addition to Marilyn, mahalos also to Jason,Lauren, Melanie&Gayle.

At 0818 I found Kala (RH76) & Kekoa (RK72) at separate locations out on the left end rock flats of Rabbit Island. Kala would remain there, but Kekoa was in cruiser mode and managed to spend time with all of the RI cast.

Also at 0818 I found Kea (RN46) home for a visit at Rocky Right Beach on RI. I’d last seen him, at RI, on 6-20-16. He would later be joined by Kekoa.

Once again at 0818 I found Cass (RG06) up in the Morning Glory, , 70 ft right of 1BS. He would later move down and she too was briefly visited by Kekoa.

The Donna called at 1218 with word from her kayak posse that Aukai (RL12) was once again on Moku Nui today. ID was by her left side N12 bleach.

Came across a NOAA photo of Ka’ena (RO40) with a small hook in his neck, just below his mouth, their Facebook page. NOAA personnel assessed and say it is not life threatening. It may well fall out on its own. He is in the company of Luana (RN58) in the shot, sporting her new bleach.

Team Billand advised of a report of an animal at Iroquois Point. When they arrived at 1838 they confirmed the Rocky (RH58) ID. Iroquois Pt personnel and put out signage.

Our pal Val sent new shots of Pohaku (RO28)&PK3, on Kauai. Thanks Val !!

HMMA from June 30th

No HMMA Update for 6/30/16. There was only one report to the hotline from Karen Turner of RI37 at Kuilima Cove but that was already covered in DB's Dailies. So all has been covered!
