3-3-2011 V014 Earns His Tags 5EW/5EX

So this little boy from somewhere got his official red flipper tags... 5EW 5EX, now as DB mentioned and many of us thought... that looks like SEX, however being the little tyke that he is.... his reaction to that would probably be EW! So they got it right.... No doubt he'll grow up to be a studly sexy seal!
too young to be sexy so he's just adorable.
Not too shabby of a haul out, although if the beach was packed.. well thats another story.
 He's just a baby...

3-2-2011 DB Dailies

I was well on my way to yet another Nobody/Nowhere day, but a 1419 call from Makapuu Lifeguard posse member , Noa saved the day. When I arrived at 1432 I found Irma at the far end of the beach. I had last seen her at the Kokee Flats on 2-27-11. She had last been to Makapuu back on 1-3-11. Irma was my only find today. I picked up the rope and called it a day at 1930. Irma remains.

Team Billand , on the other hand, went nuts again, in the SW Quadrant. At 0745 they found Makaiwi, fronting #1701 at the Nimitz Cottages.  At 0844 they found RO28 at Maili Pt.

A Dera call at 1306 sent them on their way to Paradise Cove, Ko Olina, for a reported V014 sighting. When they arrived they were advised that he had been run off. They check all of the Ko Olina Lagoons and found nobody, and returned to Paradise Cove for a recheck at 1403, but found nobody. Cove personnel called at 1433 to say that he was back, and the Billands found V014 on some rocks at 1433.

At 1519 they found a phat M&M at Palm Grove, Campbell Industrial Park. At 1613 they found Kermit at Wind Sock, Kalaeloa Beach. A beach goer said he had hauled out around 1415.

Dera called at 1654 with the report of a red tagged seal at Kualoa Pt. Caller said it had been there for 3 hrs. Awaiting ID. (my dollar is on R5AY)

3-1-2011 DB Dailies

Once again I ended my SE Quadrant day, with a big ol' Zero critters. I can't say that I'm surprised. The adult males that had been around lately (RIP,Mojo & M38) are no doubt back to hounding those Molokai chicks, and since Duke had been around several days, he was certainly due to venture out. Yesterday's report of Kolohe in Waikiki waters, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtkzkqYIhBk confirms that he is out on another adventure, so it's not particularly surprising that Rabbit Island is bare.

Fortunately, there was action in other quadrants. Team Billand checked in at 0920 with the report of Pohaku, RO28 at her usual Maili Point hangout.

At 1103 they found Makaiwi foraging off shore of Nimitz Jetty. She finally hauled out to Nimitz Beach, fronting #1945 at 1118, only to depart again at 1150.

At 1137 Team Billand responded to a Dera call about an animal at Nanakuli. People were said to be pulling on it's hind flippers. When the Billands arrived they found a new , juvenile ,male, Kauai animal with a V014 bleach. This is the first known sighting of this animal on Oahu.

Dana forwarded shots from KC Connor in Kaaawa, confirming that yesterday's Kaaawa animal was in fact KC. I find it fascinating that KC could find KC in Kaaawa !!  Actually DB not to ruin it for you but....KC sent a link from another blog about Kaaawa.... I beleive the photographer and person who spotted our KC the seal is Ian Lind. http://ilind.net/2011/03/01/another-seal-sighting-in-kaaawa-2/#comments

3-1-2011 V014 Arrives on Oahu

What a treat Team Billand and Dana had watching over this little cutie patootie... so it looks like there aren't any tags... and what do we know about this little boy?  He's from Kauai... but what's the rest of the story?
 What a cutie...
