Marilyn did view Rabbit Island yesterday and saw eight seals, but due to several meeting she did not get to a report. Today she viewed the island from 12:19 to 2:06 pm and there were six seals seen.
Out on the rock flats Lanikai side of LPB were two seals:
Out furthest was older weaner RU38: older weaner size and shape, two red tags and light female belly.
Closer to LPB was the other older weaner RU24: older weaner size and shape, two red tags and light male belly. Later RU24 moved to the rocks next to LPB.
Recent weaner RU64 (or could be RU48): chubby weaner size and shape, light male belly and two red tags.
Nearby was TemoN25: sub-adult size, older coat, tan male belly, no tags.
Nearer the waterline closer to thee 1BS side of LPB was the other recent weaner RU48 (or RU64): chubby weaner size, light male belly and two red tags. Marilyn looked for a N27 bleach on this seal but did not see it.
At 12:38 pm, a Juvenile Male hauled out on the RRB channel: juvenile size, older coat, tan male belly with some green, and two red tags. A brown noddy landed near the J/M and was still their when Marilyn packed up to leave.
Team R&B headed over to plains and were amazed how many people were out today. Then they remembered it was a state holiday. They could hear one of the lifeguards calling out to someone to get out of the zone. It was a surfer, who appeared to be clueless that the seal was there. But you would think the ropes and signs would give her a clue. The lifeguard continued to call out and she finally turned and moved away.
The seal was the lovely Miss KG89 Huaka'i. One of the lifeguards was concerned that KG89 had a hook. Team R&B explained that there is a good chance she will toss it and for now it wasn't causing her any discomfort. Team R&B appreciated their concern.
Team R&B searched around and finally found another seal on the westside. The seal was out on shore resting. There were two kids that came by, dug a big hole,, but thankfully they left the seal alone.
Then two adults came by and couldn't resist to take some close up photos. Team R&B was ID'd R604 and she was not happy about it. She barked at them while they continued to take their photos.
