02/16/2020 Sunday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Marilyn.

Marilyn checked the southeast quadrant between 9:30 and 10:45 and came up empty. She then went to view Rabbit Island from 11:15 to 1:15 and found three seals on the island all in their own areas.

About 40 feet left of the 1BS was RK37 ID'd by her two tags, female belly and natural bleach on her lower left side. She is looking good for a two year old and thank goodness for that natural bleach.

Between the 3BS and seal rock inlet was an unknown juvenile female (J/F) female belly with two tags. This seal looked smaller than RK37, Marilyn unsure who it could be, maybe a new visitor, or one of the 2019 kids?

Far to the Makapuu side of Rocky Right Beach, there was an HMS looked to be a subadult to adult in size.  The critter may have a dark mark on the forehead right side. It's belly was mottled and looked to be a female with at least one tag. Reported as UF unknown female.

Masked Booby is back in same spot as last year, question is ... is it one of the parents or last years chick?

Team Billand checked west side beach and spotted three seals coming in at 8 am.Kekoa Alii RK72 was the first seal to arrive and hauled up on lower rocks.
RG40 Holokai came in right behind him and he hesitated as if to ask for permission. Then he came right up on the rocks with Kekoa.
RG28 Lefty came in on the right side inlet and moved a bit higher in. He was very vocal letting everyone know he was there.
There was another seal off shore but Team Billand headed out to check out Ka'ena West.

Off to Ka'ena West and found only three seals. Ka'ena Point was crowded with lots of people all day long. At one point there was an very large group (maybe 50 people) walking in for a hike.
The first find R3CU at back beach, he was alone snoozing.
Ka'ena RO40 was in the main pool on his rock.
Luana RN58 was next she was alone and sound a sleep out on the runway.
Junior Sealette was hanging out with grandma today and they got to see a few whales and a baby albatross chick.
