6/9/2016 DB's Dailies: Weaner&Cass@Rabbit Island, Kaiwi@AD, Pohaku@Lahi Lahi, RI37@3 Tables, Nihoa&Pup@Mokuleia

Marilyn did the first AD check at 0530, while I checked the rest of the quadrant. Neither of us found anything.

At 0758 I found Kaiwi (RK96), newly arrived at “the party tree”, approximately 1/4 mile east of the AD wall. She was 100 ft more west of yesterday’s location. I was relieved at 1000 by Jon and Brad & Jason in the afternoon. Mahalos also the always awesome posse member Gayle ! Kaiwi departed at around 1400ish, and Gayle called at 1738 Kaiwi was hauling out again.

At 1030 I found Cass (RG06) on the left end rock flats of Rabbit Island.

At 1107 the Weaner hauled out to the far left end of the beach. It never gave me a belly shot, and the rain was a visibility problem.

Team Billand called at 0622 with the report of Pohaku (RO28) at Lahi Lahi on the west side. I had myself convinced she was on Kauai by now, but Nope !

At 0908 posse members Tammy & Dave, reported RI37 at 3 Tables on the North Shore. Dark & early

Lesley reported Nihoa (R912) & pup were at the Mokuleia SPZ.

 Kaiwi

Shocked out of my mind finding Pohaku STILL ON OAHU.

There were lots of people that came to see the huge MAMA to be.

We educated everyone, homeless, tourists, the curious.

Just at 9:28am, Pohaku moved out of her deep wallow, s l o w l y moved to waters edge, waited for the waves to gently caress her huge, fat body, sucked her out a bit, then she rolled that enormous body, floated out a bit.

She kept looking at the shore, as if she wanted to come back up at a different location. Rob and I tourists, watched in amazement at this lovely big female from Kauai...hoping she would keep going.

Pohaku then made a turn, gave one last look back, then went off, going Makaha Direction.

Will she go to Kauai....HOPING, PRAYING.

I guess she came to say good bye to us one last time before her long journey back to her birth spot...KAUAI.

My heart filled with PRIDE, that WE had the honor of being with her ONE LAST TIME.

We did search for her two more times with no sightings.

God bless this seal that we watched for the past eleven months...we did all we could to protect her and her pup...LOVE YOU POHAKU...SAFE JOURNEY, GIVE BIRTH TO A HEALTHY PUP...A GIRL WOULD BE LOVELY. ALL PAU!!!!!!!!!!!!
