7-27-2013 DB's Dailies: Irma&Pup(D#23)@AD, Buster@SB, Kaiwi@BF, R912,RW02&Kerby@KP, RL42@Makua Cliffs, Haupu@Aki's Beach, Pohaku@Guard Rails

We arrived at 0600 to find Irma & Pup (D#23) snoozin’ at last night’s location within the SPZ. At 0718 they would begin their move to the water. The moved into a channel just east of their starting point, and after lounging there for a while, move out the channel to rougher water at the mouth of the tide pool. The swam as far as 100 ft east during the session, but then returned to the starting tide pool and after a half dozen or so attempts by Irma to do water feeds, she finally galumphed up onto dry rock and a full feed commenced. They were in snooze mode when I departed on my Buster hunt at 0955.
Log entries showed 4 additional feeds, and a tide pool session.

At 1038 Ocean Safety called with the report of an animal arriving at Sandy Beach. When I arrived at 1044 Buster (RV08) was still in the water. He would haul out at 1046 and I got him cordoned off before the adoring hordes could get to him. He has remained the rest of the day.

Gayle called at 1039 with the report of Kaiwi (RK96) at Buster Flats.

My mid day Rabbit Island check I got barely see a partially visible U/U behind the water front rocks of Rocky Right Beach. It was not visible from the Makapuu Overview so I must go with yet another U/U.

Marilyn , Lesley & Ken did the Ka’ena Point trek today. At 0903 Marilyn reported R912 at the 20 min mark on the Waianae side KP trail. At the point they reported Kerby (RW08) at the runway, and found the answer to the U/U that the Billands reported on 7-21-13. The Billands shot showed only a relatively fresh crittercam patch on a swimming animal on the west side. Today they found the same animal at the main pool at KP. The patch was the same, and they reported a "WO–" tag. Lesley called Charles and lo and behold Charles ID’d the animal as RW02, a Kauai tagged animal from 2008. . Mystery solved.

At 1059 Team Billand reported Haupu (RB24) at Aki’s Beach, Makaha. She was caught in the midst of hard feeling amongst beach users, but remained.

At 1341 Team Billand reported Pohaku (RO28) at Maili Guard Rails Beach.

Aloha, as I was scrolling through instagram someone posted a video from Sand Island of Rocky and another seal I can see. It was taken today. I gave her the hotline number for next time she sees. The other seal was barking at someone who was way to close.
