10/20/2010 DB Dailies

It was one of those thankfully rare days when Rabbit Island was Monk Seal free. The only animal I found in the SE quadrant was Buster doing 8 minute dives at Spitting Cave.

Team Billand reported ol' dude, 4DJ at Iroquois Point at 0718. He had last been seen , again by the Billands on 8-2-10 (at KP). Even though his coats getting old, his signature natural bleach above the right eye was clearly visible.

They found Irma right where she has been of late, near the 187A Access in Ewa Beach. Her D#2 molt is 10%.

At 0925 Team Billand reported RI37 at Guard Rail Beach in Maili.

Not being a seal person, I have a question. Why do seals molt????

Basically the seals are shedding there coats... its called a catastrophic molt because they shed their fur as well as a layer of skin. Usually takes anywhere from a couple of days to almost two weeks depending on the seal.
