HMMA Update from September 9th

At 0808 Gail checked in with a report of Kawena (RH36) at Alan Davis. At 1209 Melissa checked in with a report of RL42 on the west side of Kaena Point. At 1317 a report came in about a seal at Makaha Beach. Terri responded and found RW02. At 1332 a report came in about a seal at Kuilima Cove. Karen T responded and ID'ed Holokai (RG40). At 1346 a report came in about a seal at Maili Beach. Melina responded and ID'ed Benny (RE74). At 1509 a report came in about a seal at the Outrigger Canoe Club. Colleen responded and ID'ed Kaiwi (RK96). Kaiwi spent majority of the day hauled out at the Outrigger. At 1609 a report came in about a seal at Kaimana Beach. Jon and Abbey responded and ID'ed Rocky (RH58). It appears Rocky has completed her molt. At 1712 a report came in about a seal near Makai Pier. No further word on an ID.

 Melina checked in via email. She responded to a report of a seal at Ma'ili Beach park. Melina arrived at 1410 and put signs up. Lifeguards put up one yellow sign before Melina arrived. Melina ID'ed Benny (RE74) by tag E77. Melina noted Benny is very green. She notified Jon and NOAA was informed. Melina did some outreach with the lifeguard. Terri showed up on her way to ID a seal at Makaha.

 Don checked in via email from Kaena Point with a report of Kaena (RO40), Aukai (RL12), and BG (R303).

 Karen T. checked in via email with a photo of Holokai (RG40) at Turtle Bay. Benny (RE74)

Update:
After many days of searching, Benny was found at Maili Beach Park. NOAA was notified. The NOAA team arrived to assess and x-ray Benny. Thankfully no hook or foreign objects were observed. Benny was released at 1905 and he swam away shortly after. A BIG Mahalo to the NOAA team and all the volunteer who spent countless hours searching for Benny!
