KP2 Sighting & Update!

An update from our good friends on Molokai!! ~ thanks sooooo much Val & Ron!

Aloha,
Well today was a fun one.

Ron and I went paddling with our paddling group this afternoon. We had paddled down the shoreline past the Coconut Grove and were headed back to the Paddle Club when I saw something white floating in the water. (Approximately 3:30 p.m.and 200 yds from shore) It would turn out to be a puffer fish all blown up with none other than KP2 playing with it. We paddled over near KP2 so that I could get a better look at him. He appears very healthy and alert. He did a couple passes around the canoe, lifted his head and checked me out.

Wondered if he remembered the Crazy Lady with the Palm Frond!! I had instructed everyone in the canoe not to look at or talk to him (everyone cooperated!!!) KP2 does have both tags on his back, flipper tags were very visible. After very limited observation we began paddling again and he swam along for about 10-15 seconds then headed off to do his seal thing. Interestingly, 5 of the 6 people in the canoe were Monk Seal volunteers!! Ron and I, the rest--Yvonne, Bill and Mary are all new volunteers that attended the Monk Seal Meeting last Sunday. So what I thrill for them to see KP2 up close and personal!!! Sorry no pictures :(

So our little seal is doing well~
~~ Happy Easter everyone.
fondly, val bloy
