April 14, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team Billand.

Marilyn went to Makai Pier from 11:30 am and left at 1:15 pm due to the squall on the horizon.  In all there four critters on Rabbit Island today.
First there was a UJ located alone on left point beach. Juvenile in size, 2 tags, older coat with lots of green. Marilyn could not verify sex.

The next three were grouped together between the 3BS and SRI.
UM#1 - adult male, lighter belly, 2 tags, no visible scars or bleaches.
UM#2 - adult male, darker belly, 2 tags, no visible scars or bleaches.
UJF - juvenile size, female belly, 2 tags and older green coat.
Marlin thinks the UJ and UJF are provably same two she spotted yesterday on Left Point Beach.  Her guess is they are the 2018 pups RK37 and RK38 Hal'ia. Let's hope once these kids molt, they can get some bleaches applied.

Team Billand found Kekoa Alii RK72 ti the rught on the rocks. Kalani RN14 was to the left hight rocks snoozing the day away.  The two remained all day.
Later RH32 Ka'ale would come up and when Team Billand rechecked Ka'ale was next to his bosom buddy Kalani.

Team Billand next find was RIP RR70 and RL42 Leia at yoks. They were both on shore with a few signs around them. Team Billand checked in the afternoon and they were still out there on shore.

Once again same as yesterday they spotted RK88 Puna resting on the beach on his own.
On their way back from Ka'ena west they spotted a couple with and unleashed dog walking down the cliff,  settled down with their kid and then let the dog run free. They watched as the dog headed for the little seal and called out to the man, folks that were nearby made an effort to stop them. AND they did, all is good, the family did not know there was a seal there.

At the Ka'ena west 20 mark they found Ka'ena RO40 resting on the rocks with tags showing.

At 4:15 Team Billand found Lei Ola RH48 and needless to say they were thrilled to see her again. They notified NOAA immediately, and because of the the hour a decision was made not to go out to the site.  Team Billand could see the fishing line about 3 feet long. They could also see the shank of the hook at the corner of her lip.  It's possible she could toss this hook on her own, (oh please!!!)  She was resting alone peacefully.

Last critter of the day RK36 Kauai Kolohe R4DJ at guard rails. They pulled over to look and RK36 was resting partial water against the rocks.   That was Team Billand's 12 critter day!

Insert OUT OF ORDER ( I thought I had everything until a last email popped up).  So these sightings were during the day.
At Ka'ena West at the 20 mark, Team Billand spotted Benny RE74 alone and sleeping on the rocks. There were folks at the ponds nearby taking pictures of him and getting a wee too close.
Then RW02 came slithering in and sees Benny, goes over to him. Benny vocalizes to him so RW02 moved to the left and settled.
Then at the Ka'ena West 45 mark they see two seals galumphing up on the rocks. It's BG R303 and RW02 after her. He is being a gentleman and just follows her. BG doesn't seem interested in him at all and he finally left.
