April 5, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies (part 1)

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Lesley and Team T&D.
Lesley's Ka'ena update is part 2 of the dailies.

Tammy and Dave made their way to Ka'ena Point today. They bumped into Lesley at the boulders as she was heading home, they were heading in.  Team T&D spotted the same four seals, but RIP RR70 moved from back beach to the main pool. RIP was being very protective over little Kaimana.
So much so that RIP fought off R3CU and chased him to the far end of the pool. Fun stuff.  Team T&D also spotted Ka'ena.
Fun Fact RIP and Ka'ena are brothers and Momma was Irma.  Irma certainly broke the mold on usual habits giving birth on Rabbit Island, Ka'ena Point, Alan Davis, and I am sure a few other spots.

Team Billand spotted a seal foraging off shore by Campbells doing 5 minute dives. They spotted the applied bleach and ID'd N14 Kalani. They watch him for about an hour and he was alone.

Next find for Team Billand was RH92, she was on shore snoozing and alone.  They spotted her applied bleach, tag and facial scars on right side.  They checked on her throughout the day and she remained alone.

Team Billand stopped at a westside beach and first spotted RW02 PvKauai in the shallows sleeping and partially submerged.  Seems he used this area for his toilet since he pooped and urinated in the same spot.
Lei Ola was to the right on the rocks sleeping all by herself. Her tag was visible, scar on right cheek.
Both seals remain in the same spot on their last afternoon check.

Just before one Team Billand did the Ka'ena West trek, At the 40 there was a seal snoozing on the rocks. Waves were washing over, they rushed over and got an ID it was RL42 Leia. She was ID'd by tag and shark bite scar on her head.
Waves washed her off the rocks and she kept trying to get higher up, wedging her body in between sets. She made it over the next rocks made a turn with the surges, made her way up and landed.
RL42 was their only find out at Ka'ena West.

Last critter of the afternoon came as Team Billand was passing the area, and went back to check Kawena RH36. She was alone and on the rocks, her applied bleach showing. She is looking healthy and no new marks.

Last three shots are of Kawena RH36, chilling alone on the rocks.
