5/31/2017 DB's Dailies:

Good things happened today. I was lookin’ at Rabbit Island from Makai Pier and RI was nothin’ but birds at 0744.

I did multiple checks at Kaupo Beach Park every so often finding nothing but on a scan at 0830 lo & behold there was a small but showing at KPB.  When I go down there at 0835 I found Kawena (RH36) on the beach, with visible fishing hook and line on the right side. Multiple calls from Tracy, Mark, Hotline were all called, and the game was on. I managed to keep arrivers to say away from the location. When the HMMA volunteer arrived at 0939 she took over and I returned to Makai Pier. NOAA personnel arrived at 1000, and an outstanding operation did the perfect hook and line removal. Kawena departed to the water at 1021. Great job mob, Ya’ Done Good !!!

When I did a routine pan at RI fifteen minutes after Kawena’s departure I suddenly found a small animal just hauling out to Seal Rock Inlet on Rabbit. I wanted to believe that it could well be Kawena, but alas, it was not to be.  The size was like, but I began to seen none of the heavy algae associated with Kawena, and the bottom line was that pesky penis began to show on this animals ventral side.  It would turn out to be RG32 t 1035. He would later be joined be Kekoa (RK72), spending the rest of the day at Seal Rock Inlet.

Also at 0949 Sadie&PO1 would finish a water session at 0949.  They would do 2 water sessions today, and remained at the west end of the beach on RI.

At 0744 Team Billand reported Ka’ale (RH32) at Maili.

At 1100 the Billands reported Kaena (RO40) at the 30MIN mark.

At 1117 they reported RL42 at the 40MIN mark.

At 13454 Team Billand were aware of 2 swimming heads off shore of Campbell Industrial Park.  AT 1354 the could confirm the Pohaku (RO28) off shore there.

The Billands had an unusual find at L#3 , KoOlina with a large Sunfish. DAR (DLNR) came to check on it.

Tammy T.,was on it today.  First reports advised that she had found R3CU and later RI(RR70) at the Main Pool.

At 1215 Tammy also reported Squinty (R330).

Consistent looks at the Instagram sites have provided nothing about Nani&PO2 yet so far today. Still lookin’ .

Yes indeed, GOOD THINGS HAPPENED YESTERDAY for monk seals and a huge sunfish.

GOD BLESS DB DUNLAP for his awesome find of Kawena at Kaupo. Your eyes, your keeping folks back was what got it done. NOAA finally got a seal in a proper location for dehooking process, AWESOME GUYS. Saw the video on news...AWESOME WORK.

To that HUGE SUNFISH...so many folks started helping it from early morning. Got the call, we were out for our daily searches, got to site, and folks had already swam the fish out. BUT IT KEPT COMING BACK to shore. Called DNLR, wasnt responding not their job at this PRIVATE LAGOON. I was desperate...I TEXT NOAA...waited. Called DNLR again...still not coming...they said to call C and C. WHAT? ITS A PRIVATE LAGOON. Ok, no time for this, left site. Found one seal, thought about the sunfish...went back to site at Lagoon 3. Warren of HMMA was out there with the fish. Maintenance was out there hoping to help the fish. We advised folks not to touch the fish, as OTHERS have tried to swim it out.

9:30am Left site again...

I heard that DAR guys came out, examined the great fish, found a Vampire Fish in the gill of the SUNFISH, took it out, and the Sunfish was escorted out to sea...and it swam out on its own. FANTASTIC. SUPER COOL.

To all involved with this Sunfish..your hearts felt for that GREAT FISH. To all who swam it out, WOW, so brave. To HMMA guys, awesome job. TOGETHER we all did good. TO DAR god bless you guys for knowing what to do for this critter who suffered all morning in Lagoon 3.

Now, seeing Pohaku was the most thrilling site yesterday...she hadnt been seen for 19 days!!! Too bad I couldnt ID that other seal...but .... Pohaku finally called home. YEAH!!!!!In I think she will have her pup ON KAUAI PLEASE in 29 days, MAYBE. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As DB said, GOOD THINGS HAPPENED YESTERDAY. AMEN. IT SURE DID!!!!!!!!!!!
