I was batting zero on the morning rounds until I arrived at the Kokee Flats at 0820. From afar I could see an animal at Irma's Grotto, and being on the Irma Quest, I thought it would be her, however when I got closer that big ol' beautiful N11 bleach of Rocky's (RH58) was most evident. She was still there on Gayles afternoon check, and a fisherman posse member called at 1400 to advise that she was there.
Irma was a no show in the quadrant. Tomorrow is another day.
At 1016 on my 2nd look at Rabbit Island I found what would later prove to be Nani (RK60) up in the vegetation behind Seal Rock Inlet on RI. She would later move down to cool off, allowing the ID.
I would become aware of Buster (RV08) at 1140. I'd begun RI observations at 0708 and at no time did I see Buster, until the sunlight finally got to him and I found that he had been tucked into the base of the cliff at the left end of the beach all along, but perfectly blended with the background cliff. He would move down to the Waimanalo side of Left Point Beach at 1153, where he remained the rest of the day. His molt is 20%.
Team Billand checked in at 0714 to advise that Kermit (R012) and Makaiwi (R4DF) were fronting #1707, White Plains.
The Dunlap/ MacPherson expedition trekked to Ka'ena Point, via the west side. They initially found Ka'ena (RO40) and Noa (R6FI) on the back beach. Kerby (RW08) would haul out on the front beach. Ka'ena and Noa would enter the water and Ka'ena joined Kerby on the front beach.
On their way back Marilyn and Lesley encountered a 60% molted 2AW at Yokes.
Big brother Buster!

AH, TOO BAD MISSED THE SHOT OF MAKAIWI AND KERMIT TOGETHER IN THE EARLY MORNING. IT WAS CUTE!!!!
They remained on shore together until Kermit left at 4:02pm.
Makaiwi would leave at 6:15pm. She just took off, whipping her fat but off to the water, no stopping, just GONE. Good maybe she can go for a nice swim and get the remaining fur ... off. She is such a sweet grumpy moody female. If she see's something she dont like, she will put her chest up high, look directly at what ever is bugging her, snort alot, head bobbing. She has so much character, is very Alert TO ANYTHING. Really a treat to observe.
Thanks to Andrea, Jan AND WILLY AND Mr Allan for keeping watch on our seals at Plains. You are all appreciated. We had time to get away and search other areas, but, NEVER HAD NOTHING.
It has been quite a job taking care of M and M who molted at the same place, along with Kermit who just finished HIS molt. And now Makaiwi...she is going fast...that is great. She is looking mighty good, her scars showing up that we never noticed. A shark bite on her neck, never noticed that until her molt. Seems more seals are getting bit by sharks lately..glad she got away. Even Miss Irma got bit last January per DB's watchful eyes. Scarey!!!!!
