It was a good day in Lanikai, when for the first time in 5 years a seal showed up to visit this community up close and personal. An early morning beach walker (Kitty) discovered the seal between 6-6:30 AM and called it in.... Diane called me just before 8 am. Sadly I am so out of the loop that by the time I got my gear together Diane had already made her way from Kaneohe. We were both impressed by the community residents securing the site by blocking the area with kayaks and caution tape.... OF COURSE the first thing Diga and I did was remove the yellow tape :-)
Without a doubt the people today on the beach were incredible.... we had lots and lots of runners, paddlers, swimmers, sunbathers, dogs, residents... you name it everyone was our there.... A few minor cases where people were unaware of a seal sleeping.... it was a picture perfect day. Thank you KC for getting this old blog lady back on the beach and thank you Diane for the great company!
Diane got these great shots clearly showing KC's markings.... she had herself tucked away against a wall of sand and was at the furthers southern point of "actual sandy beach" in Lanikai.
Her infamous cookie cutter shark scars.... starting to look like dimples
oh look a seal model
Here;s the real beauty
Here? Should I put the sign here?
Kitty who found KC this morning and was an incredible at watching over her
KC knows how to pick some prime real estate!
She's usually across the way on the marine base
KC leaving Lanikai... Kayaker waiting patiently for her to enter the water.
