10/7/2017 Monk Seal Dailies: Squinty, Ka'ena, RIP, Holokai, RJ16, Right Spot, Rabbit Island Critters, Kaimana, and Nani

Today's Dailies are brought to you by Lesley & Marilyn, Team Billand, Vicki, Gayle and old posse pal Alice & Glenn.  A yesterday's news tidbit!

Lesley, Marilyn and Diane did the Saturday Morning Ka'ena Point Hike. They found R330 Squinty in the pools before the point snoozing in the shallows. He was in the same location when they headed out at 10:30 am.  RO40 Ka'ena snoozing in the main pool and ID'd by his N9 bleach, dorsal pit scar and his forehead scar. Next they found RIP RR70 on the Back Beach, he appears to have just started his molt. He was ID'd by his K76 tag.

To quote Barbara "We been all over the cats butt, and we only found one seal."  This made me laugh, and I knew what she meant.  Team Billand's only find today and it's an important one for obvious reasons was Lei Ola RH48.  After lunch they did a recheck and found her way up on the rock snoozing.  They did a bit of outreach and confirmed she still has the hook. They left as it started to rain. She is still moving fine, no sign of distress, so for the time being she is doing good.

Posse pal Vicki visited the brothers Holokai and RJ16 today. Vicki pulled out her camera and got a couple of shots of the boys snoozing.  Later in the day on her travels she came across Kaimana who also was in snooze mode.

Gayle spotted three critters on Rabbit Island today, included photos aren't so great.  She also spent time with Right Spot today, but did get some relief from volunteer Jim & Mike.  Gayle went back late afternoon and hung out with Jim who did two shifts.

I got a message from old friends Alice and Glenn who are visiting us from Florida, for those of you who don't know them, they use to live here and was part of DB's Posse.  DB use to refer to a part of Sandy's as Alice's Beach...  Well today they were in the area and got to spend some quality time with Right Spot!  As our mentor would say.... "ya done good"

OH... I almost forgot!!!   In yesterdays' news department an email from kayaker Sharon D. brought news of NANI RK60 lounging at Chinaman's Hat. Sharon called NOAA (I assume the hotline) and reported her K61 tag. She was there for some time until the tide came in and rolled over her several times, and she galumphed back into the ocean.  THANK YOU Sharon, so appreciate your taking the time and sharing your photos.

Late email from Lesley brought news of BG R303 at Camp Erdman, looking beautiful with her new coat.
