10/13/2017 Monk Seal Dailies: Right Spot (R016), Benny (RE74), Lei Ola (RH48), Kekoa Alii (RK72) and Kaiwi (RK96)

Today's dailies are brought to you by Posse pal Alice, Team Billand, Marilyn and Gayle

Our old friends Alice and Glenn are visiting and they are having a great time looking after Right Spot at their old stomping grounds (hence the name Alice's Beach, from the early blog days).  Alice commented that  Right Spot looks like she's falling apart.

Team Billand found Benny (RE74) at Paradise Cove at first light. He was rolling close to the waters edge, and within 10 minutes of their arrival he took off and wasn't seen for the rest of the day.

Their next find at Maili brought two seals, they were about to ID Lei Ola (RH48) from afar. Despite still have a hook she is active showing all normal behavior. She was able to wiggle her way down the rocks to a small water hole and was basically out of site.  The other seal ID'd as Kekoa Alii (RK72)
was closer to the edge of the reef alone resting peacefully.

On her way to work Marilyn checked in at Sandy Beach, Outrigger Canoe Club (OCC) and Kaimana Beach. At 7:04 she found Right Spot (R016) at Sandys near the sewer outfall where she appeared to have spent the night. Her molt appears to be about 40%.  Next stop Kaimana-Outrigger beaches to check in on the situation with the grounded fishing boat and whether any seals were in the area. At 7:45am there were no seals at Kaimana Beach, but she could see a critter at the Canoe Club. When she got there she found Kaiwi (RK96) who had spent the night according to volunteers on site as well as the coast guard.

Gayle must have been right behind you because she pretty much covered the same ground. Unfortunately Gayle's favorite critter (Kaiwi) had left just minutes before she got there. The coast guard was working to remove the fishing boat, but according to the news report it was unsuccessful, they will try again tomorrow.  Gayle had also checked in on Right Spot who not only is molting at a good pace she is REALLY SMELLY.  Gayle left her at 18:30.

No word of any Rabbit Island Critters today, although I did get news from a friend there was an adult seal on Moku Nui today. That makes two days in a row there has been an adult out there but no clues to be able to identify.
