10/3/2017 Monk Seal Dailies: Benny, Pohaku, Ka'ale, Kekoa, U/U, RJ16, Holokai, & Right Spot

Today's Dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Posse Pals, Vicki and Gayle.

Team Billand first find of the day was Benny RE74 at Paradise Cove. They found him at 6:00 am left corner of the lagoon not far from the waters edge. Judging from the wallows higher up on the beach he may have come in overnight.  He begin to sneeze a lot and moved around a bit and at 6:15 am entered the water. He spent a few minutes floating, rolling on his side and back waking up, and at 6:30 am he left the lagoon and they never saw him again.

At 8:00 am they found Pohaku RO28 at White Plains. They had decided to check the area since they didn't find her at earlier. When they got there she was in the zone that was set up from yesterday, ropes and signs still up. They made a few adjustments and called the hotline. Team Billand left Pohaku alone at 10:00 am, she was sleeping at the waters edge.

Their big surprise of the day was finding Ka'ale RH32 at Kahe. He has begun his molt, and was resting in a shallow pond.

Last find of the day was Kekoa Alii RK72 at Maili.  By the time they got down to the site he was getting ready to leave, Barb was able to get to him to make a quick ID. He leaves and swims to the right, cruising the area, looks towards the left lower rocks, and then he departed.  On their afternoon check Kekoa had returned sleeping to the right of the rocks, didn't phase him that the waves were washing over him. The rain began so they left.

Vicki mail brought news of three seal sightings today. One adult was hauled out at Hauula, no volunteers on site and Vickie wasn't able to get a positive ID. (If anyone else was in the area got clearer photos let us know). Arrival at Turtle bay she was able to ID RJ16 snoozing his day away. The other seal is a newly molted juvenile which I will guess is Holokai but there was no positive ID.

Gayle mail brought news of Right Spot R016 at Sandys, Gayle left at 17:45 and Right Spot remained.
