1/22/2017 DB's Dailies: Right Spot & Kawena@Kaupo Beach Park, Kainoa,J/M&Buster@Rabbit Island, Pohaku@Paradise Cove, RK36@Maili Pt, RW02@30Min, R3CU&Squinty@Ka'ena Pt, Lei Ola@25Min,

When I arrived at Makai Pier I looked to my right and found blue lights and cops a couple of cops at Kaupo Beach Park. Further check with the scope showed a large seal on the beach. Marilyn was just setting out for her Sunday morning SE quadrant check, so she hurried over and at 0730 confirmed that not only was it Right Spot (R016) on the beach, but 50 ft away, hidden in the rocks she found Kawena (RH36). She established SRAs for both and reported to HMMA. Volunteers were on the scene the rest of the day. Marilyn reported Right Spot in the water at 1708.

At 0805 I found what would prove to be the small J/M unknown snoozin’ in the grass back of Seal Rock Inlet.

At 0946 what turned out to be Kainoa (RN04) appeared out of the grass, 80 ft right of 3BS and began moving down. Until that moment I’d had no idea he was there. At 1052 the little J/M noticed he had company, and galumphed over to spend the rest of the day with Kainoa.

On a pan at 1121 I found that Buster (RV08) had arrived , 40 ft right of 1BS. His molt is 95%.

Team Billand checked in at 0552 with the report of Pohaku (RO28) at Paradise Cove. A team effort was required to remove a large tent framework from the water. They reported her departure at 1020.

At 1115 the Billands reported RK36 at Maili Pt.

At 1408 Barbara found RW02 at the 30Min mark on the KP west side trail.

R3CU & Squinty (R330) were her next finds at Ka’ena Point, 1459. The wind had toppled the large sign. Barbara got some youngn’s to set it straight.

Barbara called at 1644 with news of finding Lei Ola (RH48) at the 25Min mark on the KP trail. She had last been seen on 1-5-17 at Makua Cliffs.
