6/15/2015 DB's Dailies: Cass&Aukai@RI, Buster@SB, Kekoa@Maili Pt, Nihoa@Maipalaoa, Benny@PC, Ola@TB, Right Spot@Leftovers

At 0738 I found what would later prove to be Aukai (RL12) out on the left rock flats of Rabbit Island. She would remain out there all day.

At 0830 I found Buster (RV08) at the east end of Rabbit Island. I haven’t seen him at this location since October of last year. Recent haul outs have been at the Blowhole end of Sandys. I’ve seen a couple of attempts at haul outs at this end since then, but the adoring hordes never allow it. Today, he was early. The hordes had not yet arrived, and I was ahead of the tour bus nightmare. He has remained all day, moving up with the rising tide. He was gone on my 1518 check.

I got back to Makai Pier at 0905. At 1006 I got my first glimpse of Cass (RG06), foraging in front of Aukai’s location. Cass would finally haul out to the west end of RI, at 1039, where she remained the rest of the day.

At 0714 Team Billand reported Kekoa (RK72) at Maili Point.

At 0748 they found Nihoa (R912) at the Maipalaoa Canal.

At 1257 the Billands found Benny (RE74) at Paradise Cove. Benny departed at 1428.

Dana email advised that Jeannie Martinson had confirmed Right Spot (R016) at Leftovers on the North Shore. Photos confirm the Right Spot ID.

In the Yesterday’s News department, photos of Pohaku & PK3 came from Mary Miyashiro to the Billands to us. Thank you Mary!!

On my morning check of various sites I came across a piece of footage from Kauai volunteer, Jay Hunter, showing Pohaku’s latest birth (PK3) on 5-26-15. Thank you Jay for being in the right place at the right time. AH-Mazing !

I don’t seem to be able to provide the link, but in case you didn’t see the front page story in the paper, or on the Star-Advertiser site, they did an excellent story on Ka’ena’s latest hooking incident. The story is definitely worth a read.

An afternoon DanaTxt brought word of R5AY in Hauula today. Apparently no photos.

Evening DigaMail brought word of Ola (RG03) at Turtle Bay today.

Aloha, just wanted to make a correction concerning the video. It was volunteer Julia Honnert that took that amazing video. :)

Holy cow! PK3 came shooting out like a cannonball. Name suggestion: Adderley (as in Cannonball Adderley).

Love Benny's beach toys. Did he chase off the kids or eat them?
