6/18/2015 DB's Dailies: Cass@RI, U/U@SC, Buster@SB, Kimo Kai@GR, Nihoa@PC, RI37@3 Tables, Kekoa@RR, R5AY&Ola@TB

Gayle, Melanie & I combed the SE quadrant at various times today, and Gayle was the only person to actually make kinda’/sorta’ contact with a critter. She got a single, quick glimpse of a swimming head at Spitting Cave. She remained an addition half hours but never saw the animal again.

I had been at Makai Pier on my 2nd look since 0911. It would be 1138 before I got a glimpse of the dome of Cass’s back, foraging in the waters off the left rock flats. She would finally haul out to the far left end of the beach at 1240, only to move up behind what I call “seal rock” and snooze away the rest of the day out of my line of sight.

At 0819 Team Billand reported Kimo Kai (RT12) at Maili Guard Rails.

At 0842 they got a call about an animal at Lagoon#2, KoOlina. When they arrived that got a short look at Nihoa (R912) just departing. They were to meet again however, when Nihoa hauled out to Paradise Cove at 1008.

Ocean Safety called with the report of an animal at 3 Tables on the North Shore. Dana would later confirm the animal as RI37. The crowds were said to be insane, as is everywhere on this island these days. It is a ZOO out there !!

The Billands called from the Reef Runway at 1000 to advise that they were in the company of Kekoa (RK72).

Dana called at 1811 advising that a Hotline call had been received by Carla, advising of an animal at Sandy Beach. When I arrived at 1825 I found Buster (RV08) tucked into a nook at the Blowhole end of Sandy Beach. He had not been there on our earlier checks.

Diane Terai called at 1833 with warm&fuzzy news. She reported that she was with R5AY & Ola (RG03) at the birth beach, Turtle Bay !! Thank you Diane !! Check the blog in the morning for her shots.

Tammy & Dave did the KP trek today, and were just in time to see the one only animal departing. No ID was possible, but thanks for the shots guys.

I had to look at this photo several times.... ONE SEAL - Cass... It looks like a line up of seals... and this is what makes DB amazing....
