7-31-2013 DB's Dailies:Irma&Kea@AD, Kainoa@RI, Buster&Ewa Girl@NIM, Haupu@Makaha Cabanas, Pohaku@Electric Beach, Rocky&RIP@ Kokee Flats

We arrived at AD’s at 0600 to find Irma & Kea high on the beach, 150 ft west of the east end fence, and at the Naupaka. We observed Kea nipping at the Naupaka leaves. They would begin their move down at 0650 and both were in the water at 0711. They swam to the west in near shore waters coming as far as in line with our tent, then turning back to the east, and partially hauling out for a water feed 0819. It was the first successful water feed I’d seen them accomplish. Technically they never left the water. At 0850 they resumed their swim, but staying at the tide pool at their location. At 0915 they hauled to just above the water line , 200 ft west of the east fence, and doing another feed from 0915 to 0935. Thereafter it was snooze time until my 1000 departure. The log indicates 2 more water sessions, and 3 feeds through the day. At closing time the pair was moving back up toward the Naupaka to their days starting point.

At 1227 I arrived at Makai Pier to find Kainoa (RN04) at the left end of the beach on Rabbit Island. He was the only observed RI resident today.

Team Billand checked in at 0702 with word of Buster (RV08) and his mother, Ewa Girl (RS00) together at the 1st bunker west of the Nimitz Jetty. I wanna’ believe this was a warm, fuzzy moment between a boy and his Mom, but ??????????

Team Billand called at 1405 to advise that Haupu (RB24) had been at the Makaha Cabanas. Volunteer Charissa Pacheco responded and her photos confirm the Haupu ID. Ya’ Done Good , Charissa ! The Billands advised that Haupu was gone when they arrived.

At 1442 the Billands found Pohaku (RO28) at Electric Beach, amongst the homeless encampments.

At 1838 I got a call from a fisherman posse member reporting two animals just hauling out to the small sand beach at the old Kaiser Estate dock at the Kokee Flats. When I arrived at 1853 I found Rocky (RH58) in the company of RIP (RR70). Mystery finally solved.

7-30-2013 More Benny at Paradise Cove

Ko'Olina Diane was also hanging out with Benny today.... she captured a couple good ones of the old boy with the Honu
awwww he looks so sweet when he's sleeping

7-30-2013 DB's Dailies:Irma&Kea@AD, Kainoa, U/F / UU@RI, Kolohe@ Maili, Benny@PC, 2 UU@MI

At 0600 we found Irma & Kea (R010)(D#26) right where we’d left them last night. They would enter the water at 0657 and swim to the east, hauling out for a feed at 0800, very near the poles that I’d just put in as part of the rebuild of the post Flossie episode. They would enter the water again and once again swim toward the east, and once again hauling out beyond the east end line. We moved it again. Our hardy crew worked on the new SPZ all morning, finishing the project at noon. Thanks guys....Ya’ Done Good !!!  The log showed 4 more feeds through the day, and no swim sessions.

I got to Makai Pier at 1400 and found Kainoa (RN04) at Rocky Right Beach, on Rabbit Island. 20 ft to the left of him was an U/F, with 2 red tags , that I was unable to ID. I also found a large U/U 50 ft left of Seal Rock Inlet. Once again I was unable to get an ID, except to say that it was a large animal with and older greenish coat and 2 red tags, Since I spent the day gazing at the butt end , and never saw a belly, I have no clue.

Team Billand called at 0801 with the report of Rabbit Island boy, Kolohe (RW22) once again at Maili, lookin’ for chicks. No luck !

At 1400 the Billands reported Benny (RE74) at Paradise Cove, along side his turtle buddy Lucky.

Email from Dera brought word that 2 U/Us were in the Magic Island trough at 1900.

I'll just say it here... I am sad to say this Tuesday there wasn't any seals at Reef Runway. I hope U'ilani and Kekoa are hanging out together somewhere.

Kea filling out quite nicely
This kid got white tips on all four flippers!  LOL

 WHAT am I doing wrong?????

7-29-2013 Late Shots from Ko'Olina Diane

Aloha Good People... here are some action shots from Ko'Olina Diane of Kolohe and Haupu at Nanakuli.  She got some great action expressive shots!!! Enjoy.
Team Billand !!!  Ko'Olina Diane shares my admiration for this great couple. We love you Robert and Barb, thank you for all you do!

7-29-2013 DB's Dailies:Irma&Kea@AD, UM&UF@RI, M&M@WP, Benny@KoOlina, Haupu&Kolohe@Maili, Buster&Ewa Girl@DH, 2UU@Ewa Beach

At 0600 on this stormy day we found Irma& Kea swimming in rough near shore waters to the east of the east end fence line. They would do a second such swim in afternoon. In between were 4 feeds, and lots of snoozin'. After consulting with many of my fellow AD's troops we decided on Kea as a name for the pup , which means white, because of mulitple white bleach marks. (I love love love this name.... I was hoping someone would come up with something fitting for this special little guy.... perfect!!!!)

Late in the day we dismantled the existing fence line and erected what Jeff referred to as a "Storm SPZ".

On a quick check of Rabbit Island I got a quick glimpse of an U/M at Seal Rock Inlet, and a small U/F with 2 red tags, at Rocky Right Beach. I lost visibility and no ID was possible.

At 1026 Team Billand reported M&M (R020) fronting #1708, White Plains. They also reported a shark attack to a Bodyboarder there, closing the beach. (I heard about the shark and immediately was hoping we didn't have any seals in the area... let's hope they stay away from any hungry sharks)

At 1100 the Billands reported Benny (RE74) at Lagoon #2, KoOlina. He would depart at 1115, but would show up at 1434 at Maili.

At 1215 Team Billand found Haupu (RB24) & Kolohe (RW22) at Maili. They would be joined by Benny.

Dera called at 1413 with the report of "N21" (Buster RV08) & "N2" (Ewa Girl RS00) at Beach Rd. Diamond Head.

Team Billand reported a call about 2 seals at Ewa Beach at 1817. Vera responded but the animals were gone.
