Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:28 and 2:24 pm and there were eight seals seen during that time. Initially on LPB were the two moms and pups.
RH76 Kala and PO11 were near the LPB surge channel. They moved up and down the beach several times PO11 nursed and snoozed.
Not too far away from Kala and her pup were RL12 Aukai and her PO12. Both seem healthy and the PO12 was seen nursing severaltimes.
At 12:36 pm, the weaners were seen playing in the water in front of RL12 and her pup. RL12 did charge at one of the weaners.
Later the weaners hauled out at different locations.
At 12:40 pm, weaner RU24 hauled out near the 1BS. He was weaner size, shape and coloration, light male belly and two red tags.
At 1:08 pm, weaner RU38 hauled out between 1BS and 2BS. She was weaner size, shape and coloration, two red tags and light female belly.
There has been a seal on the rocks flats near SRI, which Marilyn believes to be RK37 based on nb on the lower rear left side. Later Marilyn realized the seal wasn't there, but then at 1:26 pm RK37 hauled out on LPB between the mom and pup pairs.
At 1:10 pm, an Adult Female hauled out between 3BS and SRI.; adult size, older coat, two red tags, tannish brown female belly.
Tammy hiked out to the point with Lesley and Michael. Their first find was Luana RN58 and her pup PO9. They were able to to determine PO9 is a female.
The Albatross chicks are growing and getting more of their adult feathers.
At the runway they found a large adult male male who turned out to be RW02 PvKauai.
At thee point was RL47 Kamakana on the rock island in the main pool. On the left on the coral rubble was Kalua RL20.
Lastly but not least just as they arrived to the beach, RL42 Leia was hauling out with PO10.
Team R&B only had one seal today. They were not only frustrated for only finding one, but they weren't able to make an ID. An adult male, no tags seen, right rear flipper for some bit marks, neck and back area got some scratches. They're hoping NOAA can come up with an ID.
Thank goodness for the dolphins. They're fun to watch, and it seems Team R&B have spent years watching and studying their fins. Today they spotted a new fin they had not seen before and nicknamed it "chip fin". I for one appreciate everything Team R&B do, and that they share all of it with us.
