Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:18 to 2:41 pm and there were six seals seen during that time.
But the big news of the day is PO11 is here! When Marilyn first started viewing she saw MO11 and PO11 about halfway between 1BS and 2BS in a location with lots of rocks. The question is who is the mom? The two most likely possibilities are RH76 Kala or RL12 Aukai. Marilyn thinks MO11 is probably Kala RH76, this is based almost entirely on the fact that a pregnant adult female located nearthe 2BS appears to have two tags. NOAA told Marilyn RL12 has two tags and RH76 only has one on the LRF. Kala RH76 has a scar on her left neck area. Last year NOAA applied bleaches to both Aukai and Kala so it was easier to discern who was who.
PO11 was on the makai side of MO11 and Marilyn was worried for a while that MO11 would not move up soon enough with the rising tide, but thankfully she did. PO11 followed and then spent a lot of time trying to find a nipple to nurse. But MO11 was in an awkward position for the pup to get to her nipples. With the continued rising tide, MO11 moved up the beach again and with some effort the pup followed her. Marilyn thinks they're doing fine.
The Pregnant Adult Female who is probably RL12 Aukai because of the two tags, appears ready to give birth any time. The PAF was about 70 feet away from MO11/PO11. Kala and Aukai have given birth one day apart at least three time.
Marilyn also saw the two weaners and a sub-adult seal that visited each of them. They were all between 3BS and SRI. She really couldn't determine which weaner was which.
Weaner 1 hauled out about 11:41 am and Marilyn got a partial ventral view but couldn't determine its sex.
Weaner 3 was originally out on the rock flats on the Lanikai side of SRI. Weaner 2 headed for the Unknown Unidentified who showed up near Weaner 1 and then moved toward Weaner 2.
The U/U was sub-adult to adult size, but Marilyn never saw the ventral or the rear flippers.
Team R&B's first find was a seal foraging off the outfall area near the jetty. The seal had a lot of green but that was all they could determine. They only got one photo and then it was gone. They waited but the seal never landed. They did see dolphins while they were there.
Their only other find of the day was a seal at yoks. They were happy to see BG R303, since its been awhile. Three were people out and about and thankfully they were respectful.
BG is looking big and getting quite plump.
