Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:52 to 2:18 pm and there were six seals seen during that time.
About 1/3 of the way between 1BS and 2BS were MO11 and her day old pup PO11. PO11 appear to have about an 8 inch remnant of its umbilical cord. It doesn't seem to bother the pup. Why MO11 (probably Kala RH76) chooses such a difficult rocky area is perplexing. PO11 has the hardest time getting into a good position to nurse. Marilyn never saw PO11 successfully nurse today, both mom and pup seem to be doing fine.
Near the 2BS, Marilyn first spotted RL12 Aukai with a view of her ventral side. It was only sometime later that PO12 appeared from behind her. PO12 seems healthy and active which is a relief. Aukai's pup last year did not act as usual and was missing by the second morning. NOAA flew a UAS (drone) over RI today and their photos confirm PO12's mom is RL12 Aukai. (two red tags and distinctive scars).
Marilyn also saw both weaners today, but again she wasn't able to determine which was RU24 or which was RH38.
Weaner 1 was about 50 feet on the Lanikai side of MO11/PO11 perched on waterfront rocks. Weaner 1 moved around some but never showed its ventral.
Weaner 2 hauled out down from the 1BS at about 1:18 pm. The weaner seemed fine and Marilyn could see both tags, but never showed its ventral side.
Team R&B's first find today was Nalu R3CX. He was in the water looking around, probably for Kala. Poor guy continues to look around for her, but sorry she on Rabbit Island being a mom.
At Kahe they spotted a good size seal with lots of green. They were able to ID RL20 Kalua who was alone resting at the rocks/pond. A couple of people came by and walked down to get a closer look, thankfully they didn't run him off. Later RL20 moved and the people left. Team R&B noted he is hook free.
They were thrilled to see lots of dolphins today in two different areas. The dolphins were having fun and all the folks watching were loving it.
As they approached one area, they spotted a seal. They spotted a big hook. The seal was leaving the area, but they managed to get three shots. The seal had a cc scar on right side, the lure was on the right near his penis area. Unfortunately the seal left, and despite they're looking they never saw him again.
