December 9, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Melody.

Team Billand arrived at the outfall just after 7 am and spotted one critter foraging in the outfall. It was doind 4 minute dives. After studying this critter they were able to ID RN14 Kalani. Then just before 8 am Kalani made it out to sea and they never saw him again. Photos are dark but they could read his N15 tag and they did see his natural bleach on right side, but unfortunately does not show up in the photos.

At 12:30 Team Billand headed over to plains and there by "sharkbites" tree was Pohaku RO28 snoozing on her belly. Her position made it difficult to get a good photo.  There were no volunteers on site, no ropes were up just signs.

Team Billand did check several locations, without much luck. They headed over to a westside location and at first did not see anything. Then they noticed a seal on the rocks coming in from god knows where. They managed to make an ID RH32 Ka'ale. He kept looking around as if there was another critter, but Team Billand did not see any other seals.

Melody went down early this morning to check to see if Rocky had spent the night, but Rocky was not there. Melody picked up signs, and returned them to security. Since she was out and about and in Seal mode she decided to spend the day searching. Her first find was the lovely Pohaku RO28. The folks in the cabin closet to her said she arrived close to 7:30 am.  Maintenance worker called the hotline and Melody spent her time talking with the folks and answering questions. Melody went to make a positive ID of the seal which was easy since her cookie scar on her head and the two behind the right side of her neck were visible.
Melody called the hotline to give them the positive ID and let them know the lifeguards were bringing out signs.  Melody decided to make herself comfortable and stay for a while. Pohaku was a little bit restless doing a lot of rolling over and flipper flaps.  At 10 am volunteer Ed arrived and Melody left to check some other areas.

Melody check a few beaches coming up empty until she arrived at yoks. There was RL42 Leia  and since she hadn't seen her in a long time she decided to stay.  She is looking quite healthy. With the amount of people in and around the area and RL42 was trying to move through the rocks very strategically to get away from the rising surf. There were a couple of swimmers that came out of the water and piled their spear fishing equipment about 5 feet away from her. She didn't pay attention at first until one guy started making clicking noises to get her attention.  Leia let out a big grumbling noise which startled the guy, but sadly didn't make him move any faster.
Melody tried to encourage them to move out of the area but they still took their time. Melody stayed and did as much outreach as she could. She left the site at 2:30.
