September 30, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Melody.

At 6:25 am this morning Team Billand was on a mission to find RH92 Nalani. On their way out they got a call from a friend that a seal was at KoOlina.  Talk about "karma" When they arrived there was RH92 Nalani snoozing on shore by ALL the chairs, umbrellas and tables.  (Better than construction site I suppose).  Security came to the rescue and were on it, setting up the zone.  They had some problems with the rope as it was really thick, the signs couldn't hold the weight and kept falling. Robert did his best to drive the wood into the sand.
They called the hotline and wait for a volunteer.
At 8 am volunteer arrived and Team Billand updated her on the RH92 Nalani. This was a good time for Team Billand to continue their search for other seals.

Team Billand arrived at a west side location and immediately noticed RN14 Kalani on lower rocks snoozing alone. Then they saw three seals, on the rocks. There was RH36 Kawena getting away from RG28 Lefty and RH32 Ka'ale. ( poor girl ) The boys were fast but Kawena was faster.
They went from pond to pond, over rocks, turned back to the other end and finally ending up together snoozing in Peace.
Volunteer Melina arrived so Team Billand left to check other locations.
On their re-check, all three seals were still together more inland. Ka'ale still jostling for position, Kawena was asleep and RG28 was right across from her.
Kalani RN14 had gone in his water hole and was out on lower rocks again, still on his own.  Maybe he's getting ready for his molt, he's looking green.

Team Billand did the Ka'ena west trek and found RW02 PvKauai at the 30. The seal was barely visible and reading it's tags under the water was near impossible. But Team Billand knew his marker on the right neck area.

Meanwhile Melody was getting ready to start her day and had received a text that a seal was hauled out by her beach. She headed down about 7:30 and was surprised to see Rocky RH58.  She must have hauled out during the night, she was still up on the high beach area, and it wasn't long before she started making her way into the water. Melody called the hotline and ID'd Rocky by her NB on her LFF.
Melody stayed with her for the next 4 hours, and Rocky was very content laying in the shallows with the waves going over her.  There was some misty rain which made for a gorgeous rainbow on and off.

Melody left for a bit to run some errands and checked some other beaches on her way back home.  She checked Nimitz and way past the cabins she found RO28 Miss Pohaku snoozing. This was the first time Melody had seen her since she weaned Nanea.  Melody let Team Billand know shw was there and took a few minutes to enjoy some time with her.

When Melody got back home she checked on Rocky who had left while she was out. BUT just before sunset Melody returned to the beach to check and sure enough Rocky had just hauled out and laying way up on the sand.  After a few snorts and getting rid of the water/snot in her nose she went to sleep.
Melody called security and they brought down the signs and they set them up.
