October 13, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Melody.

Melody was Waikiki side today checking on a white tern chick that hatched yesterday ( sweet) this little Manu O Ku chick has been named Casper.
Now while in the neighborhood she went to check on Rocky at Kaimana beach but the girl wasn't there.  Looks like she and Buster took off, who knows where they will pop up next.
BUT Melody was luck to see Kaiwi RK96 hanging out at the end of the beach rolling around in the sand. The beaches were busy today on a very hot sunny day, and everyone was being respectful.

While out running errands Marilyn stopped to check a couple of spots on the eastside and shew as thrilled to find RK24 again today. She spent about 10 minutes checking him out, unfortunately she had to get her groceries home.

After dropping off the groceries Marilyn headed to the pier and observed Rabbit Island from 1: pm to 2:30 pm.
On Left Point Beach there were 4 seals, and a fair amount of moving around among the seals. This ALWAYS makes it a challenge not only to ID them but to keep track of them. Marilyn mentioned there was a lot of overcast, which surprises me given the quality of the photos.
There was a fifth seal alone located in front of the first blue sign.

Marilyn believes she has IDs for 3 of the 5 seals.

RL47 this years Rabbit Island weaner was in front of the 1BS. ID made on small size, vanilla belly, two tags.

The four critters on Left Point Beach and Marilyn is pretty sure she could ID two of them
RK37 (one of the RI pups from 2018), female belly, 2 tags, newish coat and a small natural bleach on the left posterior ventral region. She is looking large for an 18 month old but female belly and natural bleach make the RK37 ID.

THEN a nice surprise RK36 Kauai Kolohe, adult seal, newly molted male belly and with a c-shaped scare behind the RFF.  This boy hasn't been seen for a while so if it is him, it's certainly wonderful to have him back.

Two unknown males both with new coats. Both appear to be sub-adult to adult size. Likely one of them is R1KT, but Marilyn never saw the necessary makers to make a positive ID.

RK24  - He's looking quite healthy and chunky
