October 10, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Marilyn, posse pal Vicki, Team T&D and Melody.

Team Billand went to KoOlina this marking day 10 of Miss Pohaku's stay.  She was in a zone marked off by security. Team Billand spent time educating all the folks that came by to visit with her. Pohaku is about 70% molted and all that's left of her old self is around her head, neck and back area.

People were very sweet and thoughtful to make a memorial for Nanea RL44 at the site.  It helps to see that people do care.  Speaking of a memorial Melody sent a link to a video she put together for Nanea.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsTH-_2Vwos&feature=youtu.be

At 7:20 am Team Billand left the site after calling the hotline.

Team T&D did the Ka'ena Point trek today. Their first find was Ka'ean RO40 relaxing and cooling off in a tidepool.  I think Team T&D considered doing the same since it was hot out there today.
Then they came across a rather unusual sight, a goose on the runway.  Thanks to their seal pals it was ID'd as a juvenile Greater Fronted Goose, and apparently some do spend their winter in Hawaii.  (and you all thought this was just about monk seals :-)
Lastly Team T&D found PvKauai RW02 at Ka'ena's pool.  Seems they may have missed him earlier but this time he moved and it alerted them.

Team Billand decided to stop by Kaimana Beach after their appointment today.  At 10 am right by the Lifeguard stand lay Buster RV08 in the water, facing Rocky RH58 at the water's edge.
Buster was quite vocal and Rocky gave him a bark or two in other words Leave me alone.

Now seems Rocky and Buster had a few visitors from the posse today.  Posse pal Vicki stopped by to check on them. Vicki also went to OCC to see if Kaiwi was in the neighborhood, but she was not. (too bad).

And lastly Marilyn decided to stop by on her way home from work and visited with the duo about 5:30 this evening.  There were lots of folks on the beach and everyone was being respectful.  There were cones that made up a SRA for them

Thank you to everyone who have been sending well wishes to the monk seal volunteers and posse folks who looked over Nanea and Pohaku.  Clearly this is a tragedy, and I as well as others take great comfort in knowing people care.

She'll be back to her beautiful self soon.
